TWO WEEKS LATER
Millie landed on her rear end once again. Tears formed in her eyes, but she refused to let them flow. Nowhere in her wildest dreams would she ever have thought this possible. It was like a nightmare you couldn't wake up from. Methos and Duncan had tried to convince her of her immortality, but she had insisted it was just a dream. Imagine yourself suddenly being a character in your favorite show. Absurd, you say? That's what she had said. Now here she was taking a beating from the one and only ONH. Soon it would be ROG's turn.
What had finally convinced her was when Methos took his sword and plunged it into her middle. In her dreams she never felt pain. How many times had she dreamed she was an immortal? Too many to count. Never had she felt pain and never had she died in her dreams. This time she had felt the burning pain and felt her life slipping away. Upon awakening, she had cried, finally facing the truth. She was immortal. Somehow she wandered into another dimension. A dimension where fiction is fact and fact is fiction.
Duncan and Methos took it upon themselves to teach her. Millie had refused to be sent to Amanda. When asked why, Millie blushed and told them that on the show Amanda had only taken one head, the head of Duncan's opponent. She told them that although, the forumlanders liked Amanda, they felt she wasn't much of a fighter. Now here she was on her butt again.
"Duncan, I'm tired. I need a break," her voice cracked.
"Millie, we've only been add it for an hour. You need to learn and quickly. The gathering is upon us, you know that," he said exasperated.
"I know it better than anybody! I've seen every episode there is. I've seen you take the heads of your enemies as well as your friends! I can't do this! I can't!" she said.
"You are going to have to if you want to continue living," he said softly. He helped her up and led her to one of the benches.
"I still can't believe this is happening. Why? Why me, Duncan?" Millie's hazel eyes met his dark ones. "Do you know how many times on the forum this subject has been discussed? The endless possibilities of being immortal. And here I am, actually being an immortal." She started to laugh hysterically. "If I ever get back, boy, am I going to have a story to tell."
"Let's go upstairs, I'll make you some tea." Duncan was starting to worry about Millie. The first week she had looked forward to her lessons. These past few days, however, she seemed despondent. Reality must have settled in.
"No, I'm fine. Let's continue. I need to practice before Methos gets here and kicks my butt," she smiled. Letting out a sigh, she stood and prepared for his attack.
Methos. Imagine being taught by the ROG himself. Boy, she knew several of the forum ladies who would be green, no make that blue with envy. Duncan advanced and she blocked as best she could. He landed several blows to her torso, his fists not holding back. Ignoring the pain she would get up again and again only to be knocked back down. Duncan hated having to strike a woman, especially with his bare hands. Somehow striking someone with a sword wasn't as personal as having to hit someone with your fists, but he knew it was necessary. Millie needed to be able to tolerate as much pain as she could in order to win a fight.
An hour later Duncan decided she had had enough. Methos would be here in a couple of hours to take over. He showered downstairs while she did the same up in the loft. It was decided that Millie would stay with Duncan until she was good enough in her fighting skills to be on her own. No immortals had come for her, but they both knew it wouldn't stay like that forever.
Dressed in blue jeans and a white t-shirt, she settled herself on the sofa and began writing in her journal. She started her journal last week with the hope of returning back to her world. She knew she would not be believed, but figured she could send her story to one of the fanfic sites. As she wrote in her journal, she tensed, feeling the buzz of an immortal. The gate opened and Duncan walked in. He smiled and headed to the kitchen. Her eyes followed him and watched his every move. She still could not believe she was actually in MacLeod's loft, actually sleeping in his bed. Of course, he was sleeping on the sofa, being the honorable man that he was.
Millie blushed at what she had said to him the first night she was there. Boy, how embarrassing! She had thrown herself at Methos and then had invited Duncan to join. She hoped they didn't think that she was really into that kind of stuff. Although..............
Millie's eyes darted to the door and then to Duncan. Duncan drew his sword and walked towards the door.
"Relax, it's just me," Methos' voice boomed through the door.
Duncan let him in and invited him to lunch. Grilled chicken salad and crusty french bread. Millie ate in silence as the two men talked about her lessons and progress.
"Millie, is there anything in particular that you want to know?" asked Duncan. "Millie?"
"Sorry. I was just thinking." Smiling, she remembered the first episode with Christo...Connor MacLeod. Duncan had smirked when Connor had said that he was thinking and after a brief discussion, Connor had punched Duncan. "What was the question?"
"He asked you if there was anything you wanted to know?" offered Methos.
"Actually there is. Methos, what was that blue stuff you had on your face when you were with the horsemen," she said seriously.
"Why do you want to know that?" he asked. Methos had noticed that Millie had distanced herself from him ever since that first night. She was no doubt embarrassed by her behavior. Methos was sorry about that. He had quite enjoyed the attention.
"Just curious," she shrugged. "On the forum it's called blue frosting." Smiling, she considered telling him about the Methos Harem and what they did with the blue frosting.
"To be honest, I can't remember. It's not something I'm proud of."
"I'm sorry," she apologized. "I keep forgetting that this is all very real for both of you." Sighing she wondered how long she would be putting her foot in her mouth.
"Don't worry about it." Methos said grinning. "Are you ready for your lesson?"
"Now? We just ate," she frowned.
"If an immortal is after you, he is not going to wait until you digest your food. You have to be prepared for any situation."
Millie glanced over at Duncan, who just smiled. "Fine. I warn you though, I'm not cleaning up my own vomit."
"How do you know who I am? We haven't even met," she asked surprised.
"Methos was very accurate in your description. He said you had the prettiest eyes he had seen in a long time," he grinned.
"He did? Well, I guess I'll have to thank him when I see him," she said sitting on the stool.
"Do they know you're here?" Joe knew the answer already. There was no way that Methos or Duncan would ever let her be out by herself.
"No, they don't. I left a note for Mac telling him I was here. He's late coming back and I was bored." Millie tried to smile. She felt like a child trying to explain why she was out on a Saturday night. She understood that they wanted to protect her, but that didn't mean they had to keep her cooped up in the loft every day.
"I understand. Can I get you a drink?"
Millie thought a moment and then said, "How about a malt scotch?"
Joe noticed her eyes light up at the mention of Mac's favorite drink. He poured her the scotch and watched as she tasted the liquor. She grimaced and put it down.
"Blah! He likes this stuff?" she asked.
Joe smiled and shrugged. "What can I say? He's a Scotsman."
"Can I just have a club soda with a twist?" She stood up and sat at a nearby table. With pen in hand she began to write in her journal. Deep in thought she barely noticed when Mike placed her drink on the table. Bringing the pen to her mouth she thought of all the things she would want to know of Duncan, Joe and Methos, if she were back in her world.
Her world. Seemed like a lifetime ago. She had tried accessing the forum, thinking that maybe somehow the two worlds would be connected via the internet. The forum did not exist. She knew some of her e- mail pals addies by heart and e-mailed them. They were all returned undeliverable. The last thing she had tried was looking up the name Adrian Paul. Zilch. Nada. Zero. He did not exist in this world.
What exactly had she left behind? There was no family to speak of, no husband, no children......children. She would never have them now. Maybe she couldn't have them even if she were back in her own time. The one thing she did miss was her forum friends.....no, forum family. That's what they were. Family. What did she have here? Nothing.
She felt the buzz and her eyes went to the door. Duncan. His black coat was open, revealing the well-fitted jeans and the oh, so perfect purple shirt that was once a hot topic on the forum. He headed towards her and she immediately closed her journal. Slipping the black book in her bag she smiled up at him. "Join me?" she asked.
Duncan returned the smile and sat opposite her. "You shouldn't have come out by yourself, you know."
"I have my sword with me. Besides it was broad daylight and I stayed where the people were." Taking a sip from the glass, she looked into the brown eyes. "I don't ever remember you being so protective of Richie."
"Richie grew up on the streets. He could fight dirty if he wanted to."
"I hate to break this to you Duncan, but there are a lot of people out there who did not have perfect childhoods. People who learned they had to fight dirty to survive." She spoke softly, hoping not to give away her own painful memories. Memories that until recently had caused her to have anxiety attacks.
"Was yours that bad?" he asked, wanting to know more about this woman before him.
"Well, let's just say the memory of my father stabbing my brother when I was five is still fresh in my mind. That's only one incident. I think it's a blessing that immortals can't have children. Imagine the horrors that they....we would put them through. Their childhood should be happy and carefree for as long as possible."
"I think that..........."
Their eyes went to the door and then back to each other. Methos joined them all smiles.
"What are you all smiles about, Adam?" asked Millie. Methos' smile was a heartbreaker. Oh, the drool this smile would cause if she could only post it on the forum.
"I went to the library to do research on time travel. I think I may have a way to get you back."
Shhhh! Back to Library
To The Tour
