Emissary, The
The pilot brings Commander Benjamin Sisko to Deep Space Nine to administrate the Bajoran space station vacated by the Cardassians. This first episode is top-notch TREK, the first hour establishing the premise of the new series and introducing its intriguing array of new characters, sparked by a powerful and enticing teaser. The second hour involves Sisko's metaphysical journey into is "pagh" and his talk with the forces of the wormhole.
Past Prologue
Major Kira must confront her divided loyalties between her past as a Bajoran terrorist and her duties as the Federation liaison aboard DS9. Although this show falls considerably behind the pilot it has it's good moments, such as the relationship between the Cardassian spy and Dr. Bashir and a nice sub-plot with Klingon refugees Lursa and B'tor of the house of Duras.
Man Alone, A
Odo is accused of killing a freed convict whom he sent to prison years before. What works are like before, some inspired character moments and a B-story in which Keiko establishes a school aboard the station.
Babel
The old reliable STAR TREK cliché in which a virus imperils the crew is resurrected when the entire compliment of the space station succumbs to a genetically engineered contagion that creates an aphasia-like condition leading to death. Lively banter between Odo and Quark keep the story interesting.
Captive Pursuits
An engaging action/adventure in which Tosk, an alien being from the Gamma quadrant, appears through the wormhole, a genetically bred pray in an intergalactic "Most Dangerous Game".
Q-Less
The Next Generation refugees Q and Vash drop in on DS9 when the station is threatened with destruction as it is pulled into the wormhole. Superbeing Q has never been more scathing or outrageous and his verbal jousts with Sisko are unmatched by anything since Kirk fenced with Harry Mudd. An all around delightful episode.
Dax
Dax is charged with murder and an extradition hearing is convened to extradition hearing if the host body of the Trill can be held responsible for the alleged crimes of the symbiont. The Trill backstory is interesting and the courtroom jousting is adeptly written, marked by lively guest performances.
Passenger, The
A murderer plans to hijack a vital mineral shipment. When he is killed, he hijacks the bodies of those around him instead.
Move Along Home
Aliens from the Gamma quadrant bring aboard a mysterious game which turns deadly for Sisko, Kira, Bashir and Dax when they become the innocent pawns, literally, in Quark's quest for financial gain.

Vortex
A Rakhari criminal, Croden, attempts to convince Odo that he knows of the existence of other shape-shifters like himself, deceiving the constable in order to reunite with his young daughter. Brief appearance of the Vulcans give the universe of STAR TREK in this show a refreshing breadth and diversity.
Battle Lines
Sisko, Kira and Bashir take Kai Opaka, Bajora's spiritual leader, on a trip through the wormhole, crash-landing on a world where two warring factions engage in an endless conflict and can never die.
Storyteller, The
Some welcome character moments redeem an episode in which O'Brien becomes the reluctant saviour of a Bajoran village endangered by a destructive entity, the Dal'Rok, while Jake and Nog find a new friend in a young Bajoran leader, Varis.
Progress
A Bajoran farmer, Mullibok, refuses to vacate his form on a Bajoran moon, which has been evacuated so that Bajor can harness its natural energy for the benefit of its citizenry. Includes a surprisingly engaging sub plot involving Jake and Nog's first business venture.
If Wishes Were Horses
An overbaked stew of every TREK cliché imaginable in which the crew's imaginations give life to their innermost fantasies resulting in an all-too-real threat to the station- only to find out that the enigmatic visions are visiting aliens who want to learn more about humanity and their pesky dreams.
Forsaken, The
A computer program causes havoc on the station, trapping Mrs. Luxwana Troi and Odo in a turbo list, a worthwhile installment. Some of the best writing of the season with lively performances by Rene Auberjonois and Majel Barrett.
Dramatis Personae
The telepathic energy of a destroyed species in the Gamma quadrant takes over the crew of DS9, forcing them to re-enact the Shakespearean power struggle which destroyed their world. The idea of a literal "power play" aboard the station makes for a captivating conceit. Regrettably, the "Mirror, Mirror" like dynamics of the feuding factions play out far too tamely and are hurt by a number of surprisingly weak performances.
Duet
Like TNG's "The Drumhead", this proves that a little money can go a long way in a story of a Cardassian who comes to DS9 and is believed by Kira to be a war criminal, Gul Darhe'El, the commandant of a Cardassian prison labor camp. Yulin is nothing short of revelation as Marritza, the Cardassian prisoner who may or may not be the perpetrator of heinous crimes against the Bajoran people.
In the Hands of the Prophets
DEEP SPACE NINE finally defines itself and the show that has emerged is as philosophically compelling as any show on television today in an episode in which a Bajoran spiritual leader vying to become Kai, rallies the Bajoran occupants of the station against Keiko's secular teachings. Ironically, the new series achieves a level of sophistication and social relevance which the original show prided itself on, but only broadly displayed.
Homecoming, The
Learning that the legendary Bajoran resistance leader Li Nalas is still alive. Kira and O'Brien take a runabout to Cardassia Four and rescue him from a penal colony. Meanwhile the station is being targetted by an extremist group callled the Alliance of Global Unity or "The Circle". Kira is then replaced as the second officer of Deep Space Nine.

He perfects a medical technique which could enable her to exist normally in "our" gravity and she must decide whether to stay in the chair or never go home again.
