LIST OF SPECIAL TERMS

This is primarily a list of WoT Abbreviations (and several standard abbreviations from Internet jargon) that may be used from time to time on the other pages of this website. In cases where the definition is given entirely in caps (e.g. THE EYE OF THE WORLD) it refers to a book (or miniature novel such as NEW SPRING) written by Robert Jordan and dealing with the Wheel of Time in some way. Please note that it is not mandatory that you always type these things in all caps whenever you use any of these terms. In fact, in cases such as book titles, many people prefer to only capitalize the letters representing the key words which would normally be capitalized if they were actually typing out the entire book title in the text of a homework assignment which an English teacher intended to scour for errors of spelling and punctuation and so forth the following morning, with approximately thirty percent of their semester grade being utterly dependent upon how many errors the teacher found and marked with red ink. In this case, THE EYE OF THE WORLD would be abbreviated as TEotW, or even tEotW, even though you should ALWAYS capitalize the first letter of the first word of a book title when mentioning that title in a term paper. Honest! However, even though I am frequently accused of being an English Major myself, I prefer to use these terms in all caps most of the time. My approach is to pin down the SHIFT key with one finger and then pound on all the other keys I need to get the job done, instead of trying to remember "Shift + T, Shift + E, release shift long enough to hit o and then hit t, SHIFT + W, done!"

AFAIK: As Far As I Know

EL: Elayne

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions. A common term on the Internet; it refers to any document which lists a number of common questions people often ask about a particular subject, and then attempts to answer each of these questions as best it can. The classic Wheel of Time FAQ is at http://hugin.imat.com/jordan/, although it has not yet been updated to allow for the recent publication of THE PATH OF DAGGERS.

FYI: For Your Information

GUIDE: a nickname for the book titled THE WORLD OF ROBERT JORDAN'S THE WHEEL OF TIME. Calling it the Guide, or saying, "Guide, page 245" is just a TAD shorter than typing out the whole thing, or even typing out the initial letters of each word in the title (TWORJTWOT). Although you can certainly do it the hard way if you really WANT to (shudder).
