Season 7 Journal
Of course, one of the challenges I faced was tying up any and all loose ends over the course of Season 7. This proved to be a pretty tall order, considering that the sliders need to: liberate Earth Prime and Combine World (Mallory and Diana's homeworld) from Kromagg control, find Kromagg Prime along with Quinn and Colin's biological parents, relocate Janine's homeworld, and relocate Seer World to bring Mrs. Mallory back to Earth Prime (assuming they can liberate it). We'll also finally find out what happened to Gretchen, and discover Dr. Geiger's fate following the events in "Slide into Darkness". Among all this unresolved conflict, I teased my readers by disclosing that two of the sliders will be leaving the group during Season 7 (but I would not reveal which two!).
The sliders' journey is further complicated by Logan and Rickman both chasing after them for revenge. Fortunately, on another note, Remmy and Janine are both carrying the anti-Kromagg virus in their bloodstreams, going into Season 7 - - yet, I still had to find creative ways for the Kromaggs to pop up occasionally without necessarily meeting instant death. Along the way, we'll re-encounter many old faces from the previous six seasons of the series, as well as some Dublians. Ultimately, the sliders' goal is to put an end to both the Kromagg and Dublian Dynasties - - although the fact that the multiverse is infinite proves to be a bit of a problem in accomplishing that.
As many of my readers have pointed out to me, ten sliders in the group is quite a haul through the vortex. I knew this when I first decided to bring back all eight of the sliders from the series, while also adding Malcolm and Janine to the heap. But I decided to alleviate this dilemma by trimming the cast midseason, severing two of the characters from the rest of the group. Also, many of the episodes will focus on certain core charcters, while others of the sliders remain somewhat in the background. Then, in other episodes, different sliders may step up to take center stage. Basically, I hope to give Sliders fans a complex and chaotic type of storyline that they won't be able to find anywhere else on the Internet.
Therefore, my main purpose in Season 7 is to combine character-driven and plot-driven episodes while tying up every dangling story arc and giving Sliders fans a conclusion that will hopefully provide everyone with satisfaction and some sense of closure. I also wanted to have more fun with the alternate history timelines and social commentary; I'll be throwing Sliders fans some real science-fiction curveballs this season. Plus, there will be a new color for the vortex, and a new hair color for Maggie. But be warned: my ending to the series probably isn't what you're expecting - - though it's not necessarily bad. And keep on the lookout for a few unexpected surprises, especially in the series finale.
Writing this 44-episode conclusion to Sliders has been a truly fun and rewarding experience for me, and I thank you all for allowing me to share it with you. I hope you've enjoyed the ride as much as I have.
