-MMP210Y Metalogics
Instructor:J.A. Chapman and P. Kalway
Focussing on recent developments in alternate logics, this course will deal primarily
with some of the lesser know systems, in particular that formulated by A.L. Harris
in the mid 1990s. Although mainly a theoretical class, students will be expected to
complete a minor practical project to demonstrate their command of this uniquely
metaphorical and allegorical system. Not open to Linux users.
Prerequisite: permission of the instructor.
While the problem of the category mistake has plagued the digital
intelligence
epistemologist and metaphysician since the dawn of the field, new developments in
fast RAM and parallel networks have rendered recent solutions to them in metaphysical
system simulations obsolete. Using Woods' MUSH models as a starting point, students
will be expected to detect and counter/resolve some basic category mistakes as
they arise out of practical applications of CTEK IVb in the
A.M.F.V. LAN on campus.
In addition, students are required to present their results in the form of a major
paper and seminar at the end of term.
Prerequisites: 3 credits in MMP, 3 credits in Digital Intelligence, plus permission
of the instructor.
This course will examine Goldring's epistemology as synthesized and expanded in
Kalway's prescient classic "From Cognitive Science to Epistemology." Students will
also analyze primary texts, including "Demonseed" and "Phase IV." Required of all
students enrolled in the Master of Reality Programme.
This course is limited to students enrolled in the Master of Reality Programme,
and to those who gain permission of the instructor. The course is offered
only at the MUBel campus, and is held normally during the summer and/or Michaelmas
terms. Students are expected to have completed at least 6 credits in both MMP
and LOG. Limited billeting space is available near campus and at a reasonable
rate, or in exchange for light groundskeeping and maintenance duties.
