Hazards of Xanth
Tangler Trees are one of the most dangerous hazards of Xanth. They have their own "magic". They make the path to them seem very inviting and they make themselves very attractive. When a victim gets too close they wrap their long branches around the victim and pulls them in. They then proceed to eat them.
They are very strong and not many animals or people can escape them.
Storms in Xanth are also hazardous.
You could get hurt by the thunderbolts. They are very
sharp and hot. But after the storm is over and they have cooled off you can use them as
hardware. Or in a Technicolor hailstorm, the colored hail stones are huge and painful if
they hit you. Actually they could kill you . . . I adopted this cloud.
King Cumulo Fracto Nimbus is the "king" of the
clouds. He is a thunderhead. He also
has a personality, a bad one, of course. He has a bad temper. He loves to show up at the
very worst time and kick up a storm.
Gnasty
Gnome is a sinister little gnome. The Gnomes live underground and mine the tunnels.
They are very uncaring about what effect they have on the environment. If you cross them,
they just throw you in the pot, cook ya & eat ya. I adopted this one, so he is being
good.
Love Springs are a danger in Xanth. If
an unsuspecting creature drinks from the spring, the next creature is sees of the opposite
sex, causes the victim to fall in "love". These springs are one of the
reasons there are so many cross-breeds in Xanth.
Another is the "Fountain of Youth".
There are very few people who know where it is. Humfrey is one of them. He has be
"nipping" at if for years. Humfrey and "The Gap Dragon" accidentally
fell in and got "youthened". They got out before it was too late. To the
unsuspecting, it is very dangerous. An over-dose can be deadly.
The very worst hazard in Xanth, is a hazard
to Xanth itself. Wiggles! They are a creature similar to mice. They live underground and
bore through rock. In their cycle of life, when they are larvae , one thing that they do
is swarm. They swarm by the thousands. Every so often the larvae escape to the
surface. It could be a hundred years or decades before another swarm, but when they
do. Watch out! They hover for a few seconds and then they Zap. They move so fast that they
can put a hole in you similar to bullets.
