Life Prolongation Project--A disastrous experiment conducted around 1966 on Miri's planet. The goal of the project was to develop a virus that would dramatically slow the aging process in humans. Unfortunately, the resulting virus killed all the adults on the planet, leaving the children to grow very slowly until they died at puberty. Dr. Leonard McCoy was successful in developing an antitoxin to treat the virus in the remaining children found living on the planet in 2266.

Neuromuscular Adaptation--A biochemical treatment intended to help members of low-gravity adapt to higher gravity. Treatment uses neo-analyptic transmitters.

Neuromuscular Adaptation Theory--Medical concept in a treatise published in 2340 by Nathaniel Teros. In it, Teros theorized that stimulation of the humanoid motor cortex would increase acetylcholine absorption, increasing muscle tensile strength in low-gravity species. This would make it possible for members of such species to function in gravity fields substantially greater than those for which their bodies had evolved.

Rejuvenator, Cerebusian-- A literal "fountain of youth" process thought to be a myth until the Mordan IV incident. The Cerberus II natives' combination of herbs and drugs is self administered slowly over two years, although there is a different individual reaction in each case depending on DNA makeup. Admiral Mark Jameson, who has been wheelchair-bound for four years with Iverson's Disease, is one of the rare outworlders allowed to use the process. He makes some progress but takes two doses all at once to cope with the Mordan crisis; the burnout cures his Iverson's but sends his blood count climbing, his DNA structure changing,
and it eventually kills him as cells practically implode in their rush to youth.

This crime of rape was thought to have been eradicated from the Ullian homeworld by social advances, but telepathic researcher Jev was found to have committed several acts of telepathic memory invasion on several planets in 2368.

Test Sample 37-D (Delta)--One of the many ineffective samples run while a fatigued Doctor Bashir races to find an antidote to the aphasia-like virus and analyzed just as he realizes he has the disease. The computer's summary of the test was: "Sample 37-Delta ineffective. Viral protein sheath unaffected. Nucleotide sequence remains intact."

Triage--In emergency medicine, when medical resources are limited during a disaster, triage refers to dividing the injured into three groups. The first is those who are so severely injured that they will die regardless of treatment. The second is those whose lives are not immediately imperiled by their injuries. The third is those who can be saved by immediate medical attention. The purpose of triage is to allocate scarce medical resources to save the greatest number of lives.
