Lifestyles: A New Beginning
Optional Lifestyle Rules
- Character Players MUST begin the game with a minimum lifestyle of LOW. This rule is to help motivate a character off of the streets, as they are Professional Shadowrunners. The shadowrunners that live on the streets are rarely hired for anything, afterall if you can't support yourself you must not be that good.
Characters that prioritize their "resources" in such a way as they cannot afford to purchase a lifestyle would be able to have a Street lifestyle.
- Character Players that choose to use the HIDEOUT option, or to have multiple lifestyles can only choose lifestyles lower than the original selection, which personifies the character. A character can establish his "secret runner ID" as his highest lifestyle, as not to use a SIN or real name. The original lifestyle chosen is the one that the character is "used" to living, therefore he wouldn't be content with less.
- Additional lifestyles can be purchased at 50% the monthly costs if it is stated that the lifestyle is a HIDEOUT. A character still must pay normal fees of entire lifestyles. The reason for this is simple. The cost of an entire lifestyle encompasses more than just rent and food. Additional costs go towards dining out, bar tabs, dry-cleaning, taxi service, and in some instances gratuities. A character with two lifestyles wouldn't necessarily eat out, or dry clean his clothes twice (once for each lifestyle). A HIDEOUT is just that. It is nothing more than perhaps an apartment (low-lifestyle) or a motel room that is always there for the character (squatter-lifestyle). The contents of the apartment (i.e. food and more) would be purchased as needed by the character.
- For each initial lifestyle purchased (excluding HIDEOUT) that is LOW or higher entitles the character to that many processed (Lvl 3 Rating) identities. The character may choose to be entirely SINLESS, in which case he would only have false identities. This will help characters that want to establish false identities initially. It should be preassumed that the character had a decker establish his stories (identities).
The character identities have an established history. If the character chooses it to be a SINLESS identity, then perhaps that character lived under that name for a long period of time and many people (or his contacts) know him as that. If the identity has a SIN, then the background history of the person is encrypted onto identification. It provides him with source(s) of income and credit history, perhaps even school credentials.
