aloof

by rhiannon macgregor

Thus turned away, to hide the tear upon thy cheek
Which treads the wake of others gone before
And finds it's way, once bold and newly meek,
To mingle yet with it's preceding score.
In hiding found, and moreso lost to none
Thy pain reveals in cadenced increments
Controlled emotions, sought and vainly won
Veiling what emotion complements.
In human pain thou were so nearly reached,
And yet thy guarded heart remains unbreached.

about this poem:

while posting on CNN's poetry boards, a poster bemoaned the lack of classical poetry offerings by the other posters. i immediately rectified the situation by penning this short classical-style stanza. i'd watched the movie 'dangerous liaisons' the night before and it was part of the inspiration.
