ennui
by rhiannon macgregor

lethargic, in ennui i find desire
slumbers in the absence of concern
for any project to which i aspire,
engulfed within the lassitude i spurn.
apathy has come to steal my causes
and disenchantment come to steal my fire
i’m left not with the moments, but with pauses
until my struggles make of me a liar.
for yet i recognize within the need
to propagate my ever-dormant lust
ere i consign or othewise secede
to that which we all ultimately must.
and yet the impetus eludes my hold
slipping from old fingers now grown cold.

about this poem:

this poem reveals the depths to which i can sink when i'm mentally exhausted and unable to deal with something as simple as mailing a letter. if i get like this too much, i go out of town to the country for a few days to clear my head.
