starry starry night

by rhiannon macgregor

enraptured with the waning of light
i muse upon the pinholes far above
that pierce the ebony blanket of the night
and hov’r there, from man so far remov’d.
within this twinkling realm i hear your laughter
and ache to say again how dear you’re held
but you have gone to sleep in the hereafter
your joy is too soon gone, untimely quelled.
upon one twinkling star i wish with greed
for God above to hear my broken plea
and recognize within my soul the need
to have you back, and once again with me.
into the starry night i plead my cause
until angels cease their labors and take pause.

about this poem:

my very good friend jennifer passed away september 19, 1999 from skin cancer. she was an amazing young person with an incredible life in front of her who should have been a success story. sadly, i didn't keep in touch with jennifer like a good friend would, but she pulled me into her circle once more just before the end, and for that i'm eternally grateful.
