Z Magazine's ZNet defines alternative media at its best. It functions as a continuous town meeting and serves as an intellectual and activist service center for large sectors of the progressive community. It is a place to get useful information, exchange new ideas, engage in online activism and develop new political programs while striving for the unity of progressives on the web. It is also host to my newest creative endeavor - Web Watch.
Jay's Leftist and Progressive Resource Directory
Arguably one of the most Comprehensive listings of "Leftist" sites on the web. If its "Progressive", it can be found here. The first stop for researchers of/on the "Left".
NARC - Netizen Activist Resource Center
One of my favorite sites on the net. NARC is dedicated to providing web resources for people and organizations involved in the difficult challenge of progressive social change. A rich diversity of links for activists can be found here. The bonus is their "Starter's Kit for Web Activism". You can download it and place it in your "bookmarks" or "favorites" folder for easy access to the best on the net.

It is designed as a electronic clearinghouse for information on past and upcoming international meetings related to the environment and development. A resource-rich site with a solid mandate, readers should be warned that its board of directors is comprised of several members of the Trilateral Commission. Dedicated to environmental sustainability or legitimization of the corporate agenda? The jury is still out.
Human Rights - Yahoo Index Catalogue
A search engine that dedicates an entire database to Human Rights
An integral component of a vast web site that covers almost everything and anything intelligent on the web, the Mining Company's alternative media site offers incisive critiques of the mainstream while simultaenously offering links to some of the best "alternative" sites on the web. "Guide" Penny Perkins not only introduces the visitor to her best "net finds", but also provides her own perspectives on current and controversial issues concerning the media. Check out her "the writing on the wall: what is alternative media?". This site is highly recommended for those interested in issues concerning the media and the internet.
The Doctor Xeno Report
A well designed site featuring (real) audio reports and extensive links to some of the best critical content online, the Doctor Xeno report is a "weekly issue-oriented satrical commentary created to entertain, inform and inspire". A non-profit organization dedicated to Investigative Reporting on the Public Relations Industry. It's raison d'etre is to recognize, expose, and combat manipulative and misleading PR practices. And it does a superb job. It goes after the elite of public manipulation - Hill and Knowlton, Burson-Marsteller and Ketchum PR - those who would lie to us in the furtherance of the corporate agenda at the expense of the public interest.
Cyber-Anthropology
A well-detailed and comprehensive page with a variety of sub-topics and subjects. Read the webmaster's essays on "Anthro-Futurism" and "Cyber Anthropology" or visit his sub-pages designed for academics and activists - among others. Plenty of material can be accessed on this site.

The Rainforest Action Network
Despite all the "noise" about the necessity of saving the Rainforests, not enough people are still getting the message. This site helps. It includes updates on action alerts, campaigns, background info etc. More importantly, it also has "tribal links", a "kid's section" and a primer on "what you can do to help". A vital and timely site.
