Among the guiltiest are the civilizations of the Western world.
Convinced and cajoled by the mass media, people in the West seem the most content to surrender democratic control over their communities, workplaces and daily lives in the mistaken idea that "market efficiency" will solve their problems and take care of the future. Perhaps its an inevitable consequence of complacency.
Most people in the so-called "Third World" have never had this option of becoming "complacent" in the first place. They are on the front-lines of this "new", seductive experiment in fiscal facism. Empires like NIKE have been built on the exploitation of labour in the developing world. No surprise then that the most determined opposition to the reactionary theme of globalization has been taken up by those who have had little to start with, and will have even less if they surrender to the dictates of Corporate greed.
View some samples of the struggles for justice taking place around the world. These struggles in the "developing" world could possibly serve as a harbringer of the future in the West. Perhaps their "stubborn resistance" will awaken us yet from our apathy and alienation.
But keep in mind that the struggle for justice is just not confined to the struggle against the Corporate agenda. Oppression can come from other directions. Check out Radio Belgrade and the struggle of the people of Serbia for justice against an Authoritorian regime. Express solidarity with the struggle for justice whatever the circumstances.
Neo-liberal orthodoxy and the cliches of globalization are hegemonic ideas in today's universe. Most people follow willingly and blindly - accepting their fate and abdicating responsibility for their social existence.
* Think these Struggles for Justice are confined to the "developing world"? Globalization is a danger to all civilizations. Read this essay on the Evils of Globalization

The Zapatistas
The Mass Media worships the idea of "free trade" - particularly in North America. But in contrast to our hazy complacence concerning its evils, the poorest of the poor have said NO! Facing even greater poverty and marginalization, not to mention possible annihilation of their culture, a group of peasents in Chiapis State in Mexico have attempted to resist the tyrannies of "globalization". Read a critique of "neo-liberalism" inspired by the Zapatista revolt in Mexico against the latest instrument of corporate domination and oppression - social control through the bias of the mass media and the ideology of the market-place
There are alternatives. Resistance to the corporate agenda is possible. Read some updates on the "Gatherings for Humanity and against Neo-liberalism" brought to you by the Irish Mexico Group
The MRTA
Peru chose violence over dialogue in its dealings with the MRTA - the Tupac Amaru Guerillas. On April 22/1997, fourteen members of the MRTA were killed when the Peruvian Military stormed the Japanese Embassy in Lima. But resistance continues to repression.
