Silhouettes
SPACE The next sound is a curious fwip! The spider rears up even further, cries a painful sounding screeching noise, and then leaps from the dwarf’s thankful body.
SPACE Grant looks off into the darkness. There stand two thin forms silhouetted by the soft red glow of the bug-lights. One is notching another arrow exactly like the one embedded in the enraged spider’s back. The other, the shorter, is gently making circles in the water with a long whip.
SPACE Grant takes the opportunity to stand and move away from the hairy, eight-legged beast.
SPACE “It seems you have a small pest problem,” the bow-wielder says aloud, taking aim again at the now injured spider. His voice is light and melodic.
SPACE The other silhouette takes a step closer to the action.
SPACE “Exterminate.”
SPACE The arrow flies, but the spider is quick and dodges to the side. The arrow skips harmlessly off the water. However, by dodging the incoming attack, the arachnid put itself directly into the path of the snapping leather whip, now taut around the creatures midsection.
SPACE The shorter silhouette gives a huge yank on his whip. The spider gets flipped over onto its back, revealing its soft underbelly.
SPACE Wasting no time, Grant dives for fallen man’s rusty shortsword. Still grasped in the Kavan’s hand, Grant pries the weapon from his grip, flips it about, and then plunges it deep into the center of eight flailing legs.
SPACE After a bit of controlled commotion, the creature dies. Grant pulls the shortsword from the spider’s belly and looks over to the silhouettes.
SPACE Silence is shared between them.
SPACE An echoing chittering breaks the silence from far off, prompting them all to take action.
SPACE “We have to hurry,” the bow-wielder says.
SPACE Sitting up, a groggy Tharg shakes his head. “Huh?”
SPACE “Tharg!” Grant yells. “Quit resting and let’s go!” The dwarf heads in the direction Alliandra took to escape the combat.
“Grab Tarsis and Kavan, you two.”
SPACE The dazed barbarian shakes Conner awake. He, too, awakes in a semi-conscious state.
SPACE The barbarians do as their told, staring wide-eyed at the two dead arachnids as they pick up and carry the motionless bodies of Kavan and Tarsis. (Conner carries Tarsis; Tharg carries Kavan.) They follow Grant and two strangers to the back of the cavern and then into a hall.
