Going Online in Greece

A friend of mine was relocated by his company from the US to Greece. He searched all the ISP's in Greece before he left, so he thought he had it all organized before the move. When he got to Greece, he found it to be a completely different story. Not only were the ISP's slow, few and far between--forget free phone lines--but the phone connections were terrible. He couldn't find an English speaking person in his village to boot. His apartment manager was a Russian immigrant named Vladimir. Vladimir said in broken English and garbled Greek,"I can fix your phone line so you can be online." Big smile from Vladimir. "I do it for you. No problem."
Feeling at the mercy of no one, yet everyone, my friend agreed to trust Vladimir to fix his phone line. BIG MISTAKE!! Not only did Vladimir succeed in stripping all the phone lines/jack, he disconnected my friend's power. So fussing and cussing, my friend told Vladimir what he thought of him. Vladimir just had his smile and mumbled something about for a small fee, he could fix it. Now my friend got the big picture. Money is the universal language.
