"Courage is manifested in many ways.
It is most often noticed when there is an action that is above and beyond that which is
expected. Usually, it is when there is an instantaneous reaction to a serious crisis.
We also have courage that is exhibited during conflict that brings about death and
	serious crimes of nature.
Too little is said of the courage shown in daily
ways. Perhaps it is because the constancy of the action makes it seem too commonplace.
Also, it is too often taken for granted when seen often. Unfortunately, it is not
recognized. We're talking about those who, on a daily basis, care for the sick and the
dying, who maintain dignity under unusual circumstances and who weave it in and out of
their approach to life as one might weave a tapestry.
What does it take to show courage? Is one born
with it or does it develop? And what are the qualities that are inherent in the
manifestation of courage? Certainly right thinking and patience and fearlessness.
Also, confidence in one's self and ability to do the right thing. Strength of character
is necessary as a foundation before any acts of courage can take place.
What is courage on the spiritual path? A difficult
question one might think, and one that many people have never looked at or considered.
We are aware of martyrs and those who lose their life in their giving of self to others,
but we are unaware of courage that is needed on the spiritual path.
Many obstacles are on a spiritual path, many highs
and lows. During those low times when things are difficult and the soul is tested, we
must find the strength to find the courage needed to move forward. How do we do that?
Through meditation, quiet times, turning within or simply developing an awareness of the
strength needed to perform a particular task or to keep the journey going.
At some point, the development of courage seems to
hit a plateau. There seems to be an emptiness or a space that is hollow within.
Hopelessness sets in and many fall under its spell. It is like a net that becomes
tighter and tighter. Trying to fight one's way out of the net of hopelessness is a
difficult task and as time progresses, the goal seems further and further away. The
resolve slowly subsides into nothingness. During those times, those very difficult
times that try the soul, that test the endurance, there comes a moment or time when the
soul must, once again, force itself to take action, to bring in strength where none
	seems to exist.
Courage is within reach. Perhaps not all of us
will be heroes or heroines, but we can use an aspect of courage to help us to advance
	our soul's growth.
Listen to words of those who tell their tale of
courage. Find the thread that runs throughout their experiences. It is an inner
pushing, an inner mind that knows the depth of the spirit and knows the availability of
that which is within. Look within for the understanding. Look for the support that
comes from the spirit within. Know that you are not alone."
