Journey

"Journeys are taken every day. Little ones and big ones and some that seem to go in circles. We move to and fro in our homes or venture forward to outside jobs or to duties needed in the daily life needs of a person. Most people think of journeys as being long in distance and perhaps a vacation or a trek to another land. It is also subconsciously, perhaps, thought of as something that takes major preparation. Life is a journey. We travel it each day and we sometimes wander and sometimes go forward with purpose in our destination and goal. Preparing for a journey means being aware of that which will be needed. Weather, cultures, terrain are some of the possible things to be taken into consideration. But what consideration is given on the journey of life? What preparation is made? Do we move forward or do we stop and think about what things are necessary for the journey?

Think on your preparation for your life journey. Perhaps, if you have lived long enough, you have made a record or notes of journeys you have taken in the past, or there are accounts of things done, people seen, and places visited. It is a sad thing to see someone who is finishing their life's journey, ready to begin anew, and suddenly find that the journey was made without full preparation.

Planning is essential, some people say, and that may be true, but a plan is worthless if a goal is not there to obtain. It is not a written 'rule' that a goal must be set, simply that it is easier to have the steps of the journey clearly defined when the destination is also clearly defined. Clearly, one must give some thought to the kind of journey they wish to make. Circumstances cause various journeys to be defined for the person, but in the case of those who can make several choices, it is helpful to clear the mind and to see the overall 'journey,' not the success of it, not the ego of it, but the accomplishment and the side effects of that accomplishment.

Free will is an important part of the human make-up. Change of a destination is also sometimes necessary for growth. Perhaps the most important part of the journey is to do it well. To see all the aspects of it, to live it, to grow with it, and to fulfill self. If on this journey you have become a better person, if you have learned, if you have grown, then the journey is well traveled. And on that journey, when you meet others along the way, it is rewarding to assist them also, for we all travel to the same destination."
