Anticipation

"Anticipation can be a happy emotion or a dreaded one. We look forward to something happy or fun or to an event or meeting someone, yet when it is something we're not looking forward to, the emotion can turn to one of anxiety. Anticipation allows us to prepare and gives us time to think on that which is to come. A joyful event is increased by the waiting, the planning, the knowledge that it will be. We sometimes anticipate a particular feeling or reaction and put much energy into the thinking of what might be, what we think will be. Like so many things in life, it doesn't always turn out the way we plan or think it will be. Then, depending on one's personality, the next step is taken with flexibility or with regret, or some difficulty in adjusting to the new scene.

Disappointment over an outcome of an anticipated event can overshadow opportunities. It can cause a shift in the possibilities that might be present. If we can begin to take the opportunity that is handed to us, then we leave room for more growth. A deep sense of regret can dampen the atmosphere and take the light out of the new opportunity.

As we shift to a different awareness, we must be ready to accept that things may not be as one plans. How then does one plan for the unknown? First, you must begin with Self. It is the inner self that will direct and guide if given the chance. Anticipation with anxiety or fear can only multiply. There must be a sense of inner calm which grows with practice. It is important to set aside ideas or thoughts that limit. It is the calmness within which allows for a larger sense of anticipation and that is knowing that whatever may be, that it can be met with strength. This strength is not one of force or might. It is the strength that comes from a balance within, a steadiness. It is not just a passive state, but somewhat like a quiet room with open doors through which opportunity may come.

As you create your room of calmness, and as you see yourself in anticipation, be sure that as little fear as possible is attached to the anticipation. Prepare yourself for change, but prepare with the anticipation that you can meet that which comes. Bring into your 'room' whatever is neccessary for you to find balance and strength."
