Landscape

        "What do you see when you look at land? Are you in an area that is crowded with buildings? Or are you in a more natural setting? What is a landscape to you, and why should you be interested? We visually take in landscapes each day (or night) and take them for granted, but landscapes change. We are sometimes responsible for that change. We curve and carve and trim and edge and build and create beautiful new horizons. Sometimes there is cutting and carving that spoils the land.

        The landscapes we are used to serve as boundaries. They are a familiar setting that provides a way of knowing where we are. If you are nature lovers, you are more familiar with the land and understand it in a way that others do not. It is very much taken for granted by many, that is until something changes it. When a river becomes polluted, when trees die, when land becomes poisoned, the landscape is changed, sometimes sounding the end of the area as it formerly functioned in a natural state. Still, many do not notice and do not realize they are signs or symptoms of decay which affect us all.

        The earth responds to care. It gives to all and generously and lovingly provides for those who inhabit it. Yet this respect and care is too often ignored for it seems as if it is always there. We would like to ask you who read this to take a look at your environment. What can you as an individual do to improve it? Are you adding beauty or are you taking away or defacing the land? Landscapes change drastically at times, and when this happens it leaves people in an unsettled way. This is because the familarity is gone, the boundaries have changed, and the land is altered. This creates panic, for what is taken for granted is no longer the same. We ask you to take care of your landscape and do what you can for it. Be aware that landscapes change drastically and sometimes permanently. Give to earth the care it gives to you. It is your home."
