"Unending volumes could be written about the mind - the different levels of the mind, the expansion of the mind, the use and misuse of the mind, its intricacies, its development, and its mysteries. We would like to concentrate on one aspect of the mind - that of Will. Will is a confirmed concentration of mind energy funneled toward a specific goal. It is directed energy fueled by determination. Without will, so many goals would have been lost and so many lives shortened.
Where is Will found? Its foundation is strength and its structure is built with the mind controlling action. Being strong willed is a good thing if it is applied to those things that will be of positive results. However, strong wills can be used and have been misused all through history to reach selfish goals. Before firming one's intent and applying energy to a specific goal, look at the entire picture, for the use of the mind is a powerful tool. How much actual energy and action should be applied? Perhaps there are many times when the obtainment of a goal is possible with determination, but the added empowerment of Will and its more powerful energy need not be used.
Without Will there is little direction. We all need some idea of what we must accomplish in our daily lives and some idea, hopefully, of what we want to accomplish with our lives. When we look at the greater picture we can see that Will must be applied evenly and over a long period of time. The intensity of Will can actually throw one off from the goal which can be reached with balance and determination.
Will is such a powerful tool that it can be used to the extent that its strength grows in a way that was not originally intended. It can become overbearing. It can become out of control as it can be misapplied as strength and power. When it appears to be leaning toward those characteristics, then it is time to soften, to go back to the balance within, to look within to see its effects. Too often, Will can become almost addictive as progress and goals are obtained. Having too much will does not leave room or space for others to express themselves and opportunities are lost for imput from others.
As you determine your goals, use effort and determination. Push yourself if you must, but keep Will in a framework that does not crowd others' individuality. By respecting the mind and Will of each person, you will find that one's own Will is more easily accepted."
