If you are interested in math, you know there are
various ways to get
the same answer. Symbolically, that shows there
are various avenues to
reach the same goal. Solving a problem often
becomes very complex and
difficult because of that very thing, that is,
that there are different
ways to handle a problem. Actually, this is a
blessing, because having
only one way, one method to solve a problem would
limit us in our
problem solving thinking and creativity. It
would also take away any
surprise as to ways that a problem could be
solved. Think, also, how it
would affect us all. It might become extra
difficult if the same
solution was used for a thinking person, a
feeling person, an emotional
person, and all the other categories one might
use.

When you face a problem, never believe it is
unsurmountable. It is
usually the size of the problem that causes us to
think this is true.
To see the whole picture becomes overwhelming and
many give up as a
result of this view. As in math, one must take a
number at a time, a
section, a piece. The problem has to be broken
down into smaller
equations. When the size is reduced and
sometimes separated it can then
be addressed differently. At times it is like
taking a puzzle apart and
putting it together again. This is not to say
that it is easy. Looking
at the details of a problem can be difficult, so
again, one must look at
various avenues, various paths that can be taken
to reach a solution.

Solving a problem isn't always a success story.
We think the problem is
solved and it comes up again and again. This is
frustrating as it
forces us to try again and again. Puzzles cannot
be put together the
same way by doing exactly the same thing it took
to put it together the
first time. Actually, it would be almost
impossible to do so. No one
remembers piece for piece, the steps taken to
complete a puzzle, so we
must begin with patience and begin a step at a
time. Walking these
steps, trying to find a solution sometimes robs
us of the overview, the
strength we are developing and the creativity we
are using. It is not a
negative thing to get help. Having another look
at the problem and seek
solutions from a different set of eyes and
understanding can help along
the path to a solution. Too often we try to
carry the burden
ourselves. It is perceived as a weakness to ask
for help. This is not
true for we are meant to help each other. We all
have different
perspectives and skills and levels of
understanding. The next time you
are seeking a solution, reach out to others, and
if someone is also
seeking, be there to offer help. We are here for
each other.
