A Few Words About Me

I completed my BA in history at USM in May 1999, and am finishing my MA program, with an emphasis in pre 1877 American history.  My minor concentration is Europeean history between 1870 and 1939.

I am originally from Massachusetts, but have lived most of my life in the South.  This has given me an interesting spin on many of the events which have shaped our country's history.  I am especially interested in the late ante-bellum period (1840 - 1860).  Although much has been written about the course of events leading up to the Civil War (or "War of Northern Aggression" for my southern friends), I feel the story is incomplete.  I hope to do my small part in filling in the gaps.

Over the course of the past six years, I have had the privilege of studying history with some of the best minds in the discipline.  Although they often differed in their approach and views, they all made study of history special.. I would especially like to thank the following:

Dr. Eugene Whitehouse-------Northern Michigan University

Dr. Chet DeFonso----------Northern Michigan University

Dr. Theodore Feldman-------------University of Southern Mississippi

Dr. Geoff Jensen-------------University of Southern Mississippi

Dr. Orazio Ciccarelli (chair)---------------University of Southern Mississippi

Dr. Douglas Mackaman--------------University of Southern Mississippi

Dr. Karl Bahm-----------------------University of Southern Mississippi

Dr. Jon Sensbach---------------University of Florida

Dr. Brad Bond-------------University of Southern Mississippi

Dr. Andy Weist-------------University of Southern Mississippi

To the above men, I say thank you. You not only taught me the facts of history, but how to be a historian as well.
