Scarab

The scarab beetle emerged from the Earth at dawn each morning rolling a sun-shaped ball of dung.  This was highly symbolic to the Egyptians of self-creation, light, warmth and resurrection.  Scarab shaped amulets and jewelry were worn as ornament and protection.  Paintings and carvings of scarabs are often seen over doorways of tombs and temples.
