---POINTS TO PONDER---

The following letter was written to Ann Landers and was published in the San Diego Union/Tribune paper on February 17, 2000.

I was pelased to see the letter from Secretary Togo West of Veterans Affairs, explaining that ALL war widows and ceretain veterans' widows are now entitled to receive monthly Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) benefits as long as they are again single, following a remarriage.

Widows of World War II, Korea and Vietnam who later remarried are now elderly and becomming re-widowed in ever increasing numbers. (Yes, some Vietnam widows are elderly.)

This new benefit is a reminder that the price of freedom has not been fully paid.
All war, active-duty, or VA service-connected disability widows should call the VA's toll-free number at (800)827-1000 to inquire about DIC eligibility.

Signed by: Margaret Murphy Peterson, Gold Star Wives of America, national legislative director. Remsen, N. Y.
