The Old Cape Henry Lighthouse, Virginia Beach, Virginia-This Octagional lighthouse is 90 feet tall and was completed in 1792.  It was the first lighthouse started and completed by the Federal Government.  In 1870 large cracks began to appear and it was recommended a new tower be built.  Despite it's weakened condition it is still standing and open to the public.  I climbed to the top in June 2001.

Cape Henry Lighthouse, Virginia Beach, Virginia-This lighthouse is 163 feet tall and was first placed in service in 1881.  It is still active today and replaced The Old Cape Henry Lighthouse which stands 350 feet away.  Both towers are within bounds of Fort Story which is open to the public although the lighthouse isn't.
