TO THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVED
Over the years hundreds of thousands of men and women have served their country in one of the Armed Services. Without thought for their safty or well being, they have often traveled to distant shores to preserve our right to freedom. That is why, we as a nation, have set a side a special day to honor the veterans. Veterans Day, which is November 11th, is celebrated every year to remind us to say thanks to all of the brave men and women. The armed services are; Navy, Army, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. On Veterans day we celebrate by having parades, placing flowers on military graves, and by giving speeches. Before 1954 the United States called Veterans Day , Armistice Day to honor the veterans who served in World War I. In 1954 Congress changed the name to Veterans Day in order to honor all the people who fought for liberty and freedom.
Many young men and women join the Army. I am proud to say my husband, father-in-law and uncles served in the army. It is a special privilege to honor and say thank you to the vets!!
The Navy is another branch of the Armed Forces that many of our young men and women join. I guess to some the thought of being out at sea may seem a little like going on a cruise. I doubt the discipline and manovers feel much like recreation to those in this branch of service!!
The Airforce is the branch of Armed forces my dad served in!! No, I wasn't an Airforce brat *L*, he got out right before he married my mom.
The Marines are said to be the "Crem de la crem" of the Armed forces. I don't know about that. I do know that they fought and still fight valiantly for their country!!
The Coastguard is one of our main watch dogs at home!! They watch and keep our waters safe!!
