In 1981 Onyx came into our lives. Being Casey was up in years, I wanted another Dachshund to show. At that time I was also interested in breeding. Before getting Onyx Marty and I called several breeders throughout the country. We decided to purchase a puppy from Russ and Thelma Moffett who lived in Flint Mi. I can still recall going up to see Onyx. She was one out of three puppies left. She was a beautiful little girl. Marty and I couldn't wait to get her home to introduce her to Casey.

Onyx was first shown when she was 10 months of age. Like Casey, her first show was the Detroit Kennel Club. This was my first time showing at DKC. There were times when I asked myself why? The judge was Dee Hutchingson. A reputable breeder of the Dachshund. After watching Dee ringside I can say I felt intimidated. I had asked a friend of mine Jack if he would show both Casey and Onyx. "Oh no he replied. I want to see you  show". To myself, I said  thanks alot Jack.

While in the ring with Casey I was glad that Jack said no to showing. Casey had taken his class, along with WD. As you can see Onyx did well in the ring. I was still nervous wanting her to stack properly, stay, etc. While trying to get Onyx to stay Mrs. Hutchingson said to me"don't worry, she's only a puppy". At that moment all my fears went away. Along with BOW Onyx also received BOS to breed. I couldn't have asked for more.

Onyx did well in the ring for quite sometime. She never earned her championship . At one of her last shows, Onyx started to back up when the judge approched her. She ended up falling off the stack table. After that, she would not go into a ring again. Until this day I will never know what caused her to act this way. I was disappointed, but her happiness came first.

She was the lady of the family. Until we meet again, honey.
