I am trying to help people with these types of lifestyles to make the most of what they have and not to give up no matter what! I myself have done much research as my physical mobility has "waxed & waned" these past 21 years, and it is interesting to have access to your lists of easy care plants.I find it challenging to find a balance between those varieties w ich are low maintainence (yet breathtaking) vigorous (yet not invasive) and yet realistic to establish. I didn't notice any "easy perrennials/annuals from seed" denoted...and, if you could post such a list in the future, I, and others would be most intere ted. It is an econimical route to getting colour in one's few exposed soil areas. If I missed the list, my appologies (I'll find it on a subsequent foray), but my two young sons are in need of a little attention...that, these past few years,has been my ma n focus...and I have had to garden "vicariously". | Comments: Hi Susan (if I may call you by your first name?) I'm a parent of a child who has fought all her life with a un-named disease. Currently we are seeing a pediatric neurologist in hopes of finding the answers to all her challenges. I believe the name of KWS is the disease he mentioned. He is not giving ny specific name for her condition until furture testing. But I think KWS is what he commented on. So, I decided to do some research to see if it fits possibly. We have a daughter, 12 years old, dealing with what seems to be almost everything under the sun a person could be hit with. She copes well considering and we hope to find some answers and possible ways to make her life more enjoyable. If you have a chance would love to chat, love your paintings, they're awesome. But if life seems to pull you in 20 directions making it hard to chat I understand. Thanks for all the info and some pleasures you've shared. Wishing the Very Best. | Comments: Hi! I have a long way to go to finish all of the interesting information you have included on your site regarding handicapable gardening. I am also in a wheelchair and right now I am living in an apartment with my husband and daughter. They are my musc es when I need something brought to my level. I do have special hand cutters and a medium sized loper. I just finished volunteering at Epcot in the International Flower and Garden Festival. The Horticultural Therapy Association had a very special garden called the Opportunity Garden. It was filled with ideas of ways to garden for people with all kinds of challenges. I also belong to the Osceola Master Gardeners and we are in the process of planning a new garden, trying very hard to make it accessible for a variety of challenged individuals as well as normal bodied people. So many people have challenges that don't sh w (stress, high blood pressure, heart, breathing problems etc.) and we are hoping they will find that gardening is a good source of relaxation, both from the gardening to the thrill of sitting in your very own garden. I am looking forward to visiting your site frequently. |

| Comments: Hi, I'm Mom to Tristan (6 1/2 yrs, sma II/III) Thanks for your very informative site. And thanks for sharing your wonderful photos and background. Tristan wasn't diagnosed until he was 5. Fortunately I've taken him swimming since he was a small baby, and e takes swim lessons year-around. It's been a life-saver for him. By the way, we have 4 cats. | Comments: I visited the website of Aker on referral from Mimi-ji Flintermann. I am remarkably impressed as are the other members of the Furball Chorus. We live in a town our human calls Pacifica, CA near the ocean. We did have a pot of daisy mums when we moved in t this house last August. Is that what you meam by flowers? I used to live in the weeds as they were good for hiding. I am usually quite shy though some say I look like a forocious Tom cat, I am really kinda of a scaredy and I hate fighting and used to like girls but have lost interest since coming into this commune. But I am happy here vs there. It is safer here, a lot more comfortable and food is more reliable and easy to come by. You certainly are good looking. I am sorry to hear of your vision d fficulties but I trust that will not interfere with your webhosting capabilities. I would not continue outdoor hunting if I were you. | Comments: I also have SMA but am 49. Didnt get diagnosed til my mid 30's. Dont have the respiratory problems. But in Feb 97 had a spiral fracture of the right thigh. Had to have surgery and like you could not bear weight on leg for at least 3 months. Surgery r quired metal rods and screws luckily no cast. My experience was a nightnmare I wont go into here. I now cannot walk and cannot risk breaking another bone in either leg. I also had contractures and surgery for both of the tendons one at 19. One at about 24. I walked poorly when I broke my leg. The lleg broke before I fell. Yes I also have osteoporosis but from what Ive read I have to exercise for treatment with calcium to work. I can not exercise. I exhaust myself enough transferring to my wheelchair etc. But then I am almost 50. The leg I broke still hurts and the muscle spasms are intense. I take zanaflex which is a fairly new antispasmodic. Also at times painkillers and a eve. Xanax helps my swallowing problem. I spend much time resting in bed. Transportation is a problem as is my house that is not designed for not walking. Planning to move back to PA where I have more friends and the services are a bit better. Never had blood test so I may not have SMA. Fir t neurologist said he wasnt sure but there were no blood tests. Since I havent been able to work and am not eligible for govt help Ihave no insurance. So I havent gotten a test to find out. My interest is cats and I have several who keep me company. One boy friend to help me. I am amazed at how different and difficult it has been not to walk. When I walked and used my chair a lot thought I understood. I now use a power chair. Someone sent me this link. Happy flowers. Lisa |

I live in Hays, Kansas now but lived in Canada for about 25 years. I was a professor at University of Alb rta and Queen's University in Speech Pathology and Audiology. I now teach 14 different courses long distance in Assistive Technology (AT)for special needs individuals. I've often thought of developing a long distance course in AT and Gardening.
