SAM
Here he is, my new Blue Front Amazon.
Sam
Sam Sam

Sam is about 10 years old and was given to me on Oct 27th. I don't know the whole story about him, but I know that he didn't like his previous owner. She said he would attack and bite her any chance he got. She was tired of being unloved by Sam.

I have not had any trouble with Sam. He gets along just fine with my husband and I. He always puts a foot up for us to pick him up, and he loves to sit with me while I read my email.

He does not like to be petted or touched. We are working on that and it will take time. I can now touch and pet his toes and feet. It's a small step but a big one.

Sam is also very skinny. When I took him to the vet he weighed 365 grams. The vet said he should weigh between 420 and 450 grams. I'm feeding him lots of pasta, beans, rice, fruit, vegies, seeds and pellets and special birdy bread that I make.

Isn't it amazing how time will change things? It's now April and Sam has turned into the mean vicious bird the previous owner said he was.  I know what you are thinking and no, I don't think it's hormones. Sam was only nice to me for about 6 or so weeks before he started turning mean. He is just what his previous owner said he was. Mean and Vicious.

If I walk by his cage, he jumps from his perch to the side of the cage, tail fanned and eyes pinpointed. I don't have to speak Amazon to know what those eyes are saying. If he is out of his cage and sitting on top, he will jump off his cage to attack me.  For awhile he would let my husband feed him without attacking, now he attacks my husband.

I really felt bad for him one day. (He used to (first few weeks) love being sprayed with the spray bottle....) I had him on a portable perch so I could clean his cage and I got the spray bottle out.  He was so torn between  hating and wanting to attack me and wanting so bad to enjoy the bath.. He couldn't enjoy the bath. He would start to fluff up for the spray then his eyes would pinpoint again and he would be in attack mode. So sad to see this change in him.

I just can't imagine what happened to him in the past to make him this way. My husband and I have been so  loving to him, so I know in my heart it's nothing we have done. His previous owner says he is like this year around, so it's not hormones.

If any of you have any suggestions for me. Please write. If any of you feel you can give him a better home..hmm, maybe a breeder?  Please write.  I just don't know what to do with him.

We have quite a bit of company at my house and I'm afraid that one day some unsuspecting person is going to get attacked by him.

Just in case anyone is really interested in him.. Sam is really Sam, not Samantha. I had Zoogen check.
