This is a story about a special kitty whose name is Connor.
And a very special lady whose name is Nancy.

June

June 5, 1997 - "Two weeks ago, some kids threw a cat out of their car
near my house and he dragged himself into the woods.

I finally got him and took him to my vet,
he has 2 fractures in his leg and his shoulder was smashed.
He had to have 2 metal screws in the shoulder
and the cast will be on for 10 weeks!

Well, he is living in a big cage on my enclosed porch,
he is so brave and sweet that I named him Connor MacCleod.
I am going to make sure that he has a wonderful life
from now on!"

Connor at home
Connor looking quite wary of humans. Can we blame him?

June 14, 1997 - "His infection is localized and the shoulder
and lower leg fractures are healing well.
The bad news is that those fractures were so severe
that they have caused his elbow to dislocate permanently
and begin to form a new, crooked joint.

When the cast comes off for good, this leg will be 1-2 inches shorter.
The tendons in the paw are useless, so Dr. Mark thinks
he will take him to "XXX" Vet College and fuse the bones
so he'll have some support.
I am going to try to turn my boy's old room into a place for him.

I am having a lot of trouble dealing with
this senseless act of cruelty by someone.
I have this poor little kitty with his whole life changed
because someone didn't want him anymore.

I am planning ways for Connor and the other cats to get acquainted
because I will never let him go.
He can be my "Renegade" Highlander with these Fru Fru Persians."

June 16, 1997 - "Connor is back home tonight.
Guess he missed me, he is purring and rubbing
and seems to like his new room.
Can't wait for the day when he can sleep on my bed
with the rest of the babies!"

(Nancy remade a regular door into a "dutch-door"
to Connor's room,
so he could have privacy and recover,
yet still see what was going on.
As I said, this is a very special lady.)

June 18, 1997 - "Connor is really improving and putting some weight on.
I think the new cast must be more comfortable too.
Neighbors are visiting him and that helps.
I hope by the end of the summer we will be one big happy family!"

Just look at that sweet face...

June 26, 1997 - "I just wanted to tell you how well Connor is doing!
He is gaining weight, purring all the time
and his cute personality is beginning to shine.

Finally he seems to be pain-free, and I have been letting him
explore "his" room for an hour or two each day.
He falls over a lot since his cast won't slide
on the carpet very well, but he just gets back up and keeps on going.
What a cat!

Amanda visits in Connors' room while he is safely in his cage.
They seem to get along, Amanda is my friendliest cat
so I've started with her."

June 29, 1997 - "Connor is doing so great!
He loved the music box so well
that I put an FM radio in "his room."

Last night he fell asleep in my arms, that was sooo nice.
He must have the cleanest cast in town,
he cleans it just like the rest of himself
and it makes a funny 'raspy' noise.
I love him!!!
