Having heard and believed the gospel, you must then repent of your sins. And to repent doesn't just mean saying "I'm sorry." and then going back to what you were doing before. Repentance is to completely change from what you were doing before, and strive to follow God.
Why must we repent of our sins?
What happens if we don't repent?
Luke 13:3 says: "I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."
What happens when we do repent?
God wants us to repent of our sins and turn to Him. In Acts 17:30, we read: "Having overlooked the former times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all everywhere should repent."
These verses show that repentance is neccesary for salvation.
because "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."(Romans 3:23)
Romans 3:10 says: "as it is written, there is none righteous, not even one.
We must repent because we have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God.
Those who do not repent will perish.
Acts 2:38 says: "Repent and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Also, Acts 3:19 says: Repent therefore and return, that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord."
So, when we repent, it is then possible for our sins to be wiped away, and we can receive times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord.
