Camping is one of our favorite family pasttimes. Ohio has a wide variety of camping available. From private campgrounds to State Parks. Our personal favorite is Hocking Hills located in Hocking County, Ohio. It has to be one of the most beautiful places in Ohio. If you live in Ohio or are planning a visit and would like to learn more about our State Parks, make a visit to the Department of Natural Resources. There you will find a listing of all of the state parks. Or you may call 1-800-BUCKEYE for loads of information. Below you will find some great camping sites no matter where you camp at.

              A Beginner's Guide to Camping

Camping for us means lots of fun and relaxation, but of course with three young kids, its sometimes alot of work. One thing we did a couple of years ago to make it easier was bought a camper. Nothing fancy, just one of those "pop-up" type campers. But it is sufficient enough for us. And it makes a world of difference. I actually wake up feeling refreshed, instead of wondering was that a stick or a snake I was sleeping on all night?? LOL The best part of camping for me personally would be the "camp food". Three's nothing like almost burnt to a crisp hot dogs, and oooey gooey marshmellows. One of favorite creations is
              Hamburger Surprise
              hamburger patties
              salt
              potatoes, thinly sliced
              butter
              pepper
              Cooking spray
Use large sheet of aluminum foil, spray all over one side with cooking spray. Form hamburger into patties, put one patty on the sprayed side of the foil, and salt to taste. Spread large amount of sliced potatoes over the hamburger. Drop butter chunks all over the hamburger/potato pile. Salt and pepper to taste. Wrap up foil to make a package. Cook over heat turning occasionally to insure even cooking. After a half hour or so, depending on your heat, check for doneness. Continue cooking til desired doneness.

It is awesome. Nice and juicy. We also have a set of "pie cookers" made for camping. In them, we create miniature pizzas, pies, and sandwiches. Well worth the money to buy them. Kids love being able to make their own special "creations". My only piece of advice for going camping with kids: Pack plenty of extra clothes!!! LOL Kids will find anything they can to get into while camping. My kids love sitting around the campfire at night and listening for any visitors that may sneak into our site to find some yummies. So far, we've seen raccoons (lots of em), ground hogs, squirrels, and *yikes* even a few skunks. Marshmellows seem to be their favorite also.

              Good luck and happy camping!!
