Acknowledgements

The Family - Siegrist Online Research Group began in January 1998 to assist Siegrist (and surname spelling variations) descendants find missing pieces in their Siegrist genealogy research puzzle. This is NOT a general genealogy discussion group.

During its 1st quarter, the "Group" has accomplished much. Bob and Dr. Fred have spent over 20 years researching two distinct lines of Siegrist that immigrated from the Palatinate region of the Rhine River valley. We have been able to bring together several distant cousins from these two lines through this group. As we expand the groups' members listing, we have been able to successfully incorporate and updated information.

One member in particular deserves great acknowledgement. Due to the meticulous research efforts of Michael C., we have now been able to join these two lines together, adding two generations covering over 80 years of family information. The brothers' Journey to America with their families has been exquisitely re-created by Caroline.

The group's format includes discussions about the Siegrist families, passing along information regarding books, references and events such as reunions. Which has generated the Family - Siegrist Web site. The support and contributions are greatly appreciated.

Overview

The Family - Siegrist Online Research Group is a list of email addresses that receive Siegrist information. Think of it like an electronic version of the traditional bulletin board. All messages and replies posted go to everyone in the group. There could be a lot of messages each day, or just a few, you never know.

You may not be interested in "John Siegrist", but you will get all messages sent to the group regarding him. You can always delete those message that do not interest you but remember, inside that unread message may be that certain piece of your puzzle you've been searching for.

Basic guidelines:

1. This free (no fees) group is dedicated to the Siegrist family surname (and various surname spellings), meaning if it is a surname not somehow related to a Siegrist, that you do NOT post it. You may correspond privately with distant cousins that are more directly connected to your non-Siegrist lines.

2. Keep discussions to Siegrist genealogy or related topics. Please, no daily jokes, electronic greeting cards, chain letters or other off topic subjects. We can receive those through other sources

3. Due to their large size, please do NOT post gedcom files or photos here. Send them privately through email, not to the group. If you strongly feel the majority of the group would be interested - first send out a message inquiring of the groups' interest. Then then we can make arrangements for the file. If interest is great enough, we may concider using the web site as an alternative.

4. Profanity and pornography are NOT tolerated!

5. We expect all messages should be polite and courteous. If you have a problem you wish to address please e-mail me privately. It is the people involved that make or break a group.

6. You will receive the "guidelines" and information on how to get acquainted. Then, I will introduce you.

I've been involved in several groups - good and bad ones. We are trying to make this is an excellent one, but it's the first one I've run so be patient with me as I learn too!
