Drinking and Driving

We all know that drinking and driving doesn't mix.
(*Graphic by Tom Chaplin)
Most of our lives have been touched either by an innocent victim of a drunken driver or a problem drinker..... whether it's a family member, friend, co-worker, neighbor.....whoever.
It is not my intent to "put down" the person who chooses to drink, rather to create a site to help promote awareness and education for the
PREVENTION of drinking and driving.
If you drink, drink Responsibly!
A DUI Proposal in
There is an interesting, yet simple and cost effective Bill being proposed in the State of Montana that I honestly feel would be workable in ALL states.
"A DUI Proposal to stop drunk drivers - Shouldn't We Revoke "Drinking Privileges" instead of "Driving Privileges"? We don't need more police, more prisons, or more funding ....everything needed is already in place. This just makes sense."
Learn all about Montana's Proposed Bill initiated by Sharon and Lynette Snell. Here you will also find information on: the Proposed DUI Legislation; How it Works; Why we need to do something different; Why this works better-a Win/Win Solution; DUI FAQ; DUI Statistics; Server Accountability; Tavern Concerns; Updates and more!
If you are concerned about the Drinking and Driving Situation, please take a SERIOUS look at this proposal and then take a few minutes to Write Your Government Officials!
Isn't a precious life worth a few minutes of your time?
Write the President or Vice President
Write Members of the U.S. House of Representatives
Write Members of the U.S. Senate
I wrote mine!
Did you write yours?
What IS BAL?
The amount of alcohol in your blood stream is referred to as Blood Alcohol Level (BAL)....read more about it and how it works in this article by *Robert Westermeyer, Ph.D. (*Used with permission.)

Alcohol Traffic Safety Facts
After much surfing on the net it seems the most recent statistics that I can find are from 1996 and those are according to The U.S. Department of
Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Listed below are some highlights from the statictistics or you can view more statistics.
"There were 17,126 alcohol-related fatalities in 1996 - 40.9 percent of the total traffic fatalities for the year."
"From 1986 to 1996 intoxication rates decreased for drivers of all age groups involved in fatal crashes."
"More than one-third of all pedestrians 16 years of age or older killed in traffic crashes in 1996 were intoxicated."
"NHTSA estimates that minimum drinking age laws have saved 16,513 lives since 1975."
All states and the District of Columbia now have 21-year-old minimum drinking age laws. NHTSA estimates
that these laws have reduced traffic fatalities involving drivers 18 to 20 years old by 13 percent and have saved an estimated 16,513 lives since 1975.
