Helen was born near Sugar Creek, Tuscarawas County, OH on 13 May 1830. She was the daughter of John and Jane (Gossett) Smiley. John died on 01 Oct 1868 in Patterson, Hardin County, OH and is interred in the Old Patterson Cemetery. Helen died on 10 Jan 1910 and is buried in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Tremont, Tazewell County, IL. They are the parents of the following children:

John Henry Funk, Jr. was born in Patterson, Hardin County, OH on 07 Apr 1854. He was married on 21 Dec 1885 in Marion County, OH to Lola Mary Fullerton. She was born 08 Oct 1858, the daughter of William B. and Mary Ann (McAfferty) Fullerton. John passed away in Springfield, OH on 26 May 1911 and Lola died 01 Jan 1926. They are interred in the Ferncliff Cemetery, Springfield, Clark County, OH. They were the parents of the following children:
