Hospital Stay from 1/28/98-2/24/98

January

  • 28th-- Timothy Allan Golden born at 8:55 p.m. weighing 4 pounds 11 ounces and was 17 1/2 inches long. Receiving oxygen.
  • 29th-- Put on ventilator around 3:00 a.m. Given 1 dose of surfactant.
  • 30th-- Taken off ventilator around 11:00 a.m. Oxygen requirements are 30-40%.
  • 31st---Mom was able to hold him for the first time. Oxygen the same.
  • February

  • 1st-- Timothy had his first tube feeding* and was moved to an isolette. Oxygen levels at around 35 %.
  • 2nd-- Timothy feed he took 8 ccs and another 10 cc's by tube. Oxygen between 30 and 40 % throughout the day. Timothy had an apnea spell today.
  • 3rd-- Timothy is no longer requiring an I.V. Feedings. Oxygen around 30. Timothy weighs 4 pounds 6 ounces.
  • 4th-- Timothy is on room air the last time we checked. He is going up 2 ccs on his feedings each time. He is also nipple feeding once a day. (Updated at 10:30 p.m.) Timothy is still on room air. But he had a minor set back in his feedings. He started spitting up after his feedings so the dr. put him on a soy formula. (Milk allergies run in the family). Tonight he weighed at 4 pounds 5 ounces. They will not be increasing his feedings until they are sure the new formula is O.K. for him.
  • 5th-- Timothy has stayed on room air. The new formula is working fine so far. His feedings are being increased by 2 ccs at each feeding. The dr. ordered an ultrasound of his head to determine if he has any bleeding. That will be done in the next couple of days. He will be staying in an isolette for a little longer the dr. wants Timothy to concentrate more on gaining weight and eating than trying to control his body temp. Timothy's weight today is 4 pounds 6 ounces.
  • 6th-- Timothy has been able to stay on room air and his breathing is stable so today he is coming off the monitor that tracks his oxygen level. He is up to 45 cc's a feeding on his formula. The ultrasound came back he has a minor grade 1 bleed. Dr. says it is common and not to worry it is just something to watch that minor bleeds like this correct themselves. The dr. estimated that Timothy has another 10 to 17 days of hospital time left. (Probably closer to 17 days than 10.)
  • 7th-- Timothy is doing very well. He is not having any problems with the new formula. He has no needles stuck in him anywhere and the only monitor that is connected is the one that monitors his heart rate/respiration in combination with the EKG. He looks so much more relaxed now that he is free from all the wires and the needles. Timothy has one nipple feeding a day and at today's he took all 45 cc's by nipple.
  • 8th-- The dr. increased Timothy to a nipple feeding per shift. His jaundice is still correcting itself and he will not need photo therapy. He now weighs 4 pounds 10 ounces (2035 grams).
  • 9th-- Today Timothy is being weaned out of his Isolette and should be in an open crib sometime tomorrow. His weight is good he was born at 2140 grams* (4 lbs. 10 ozs.) and tonight he weighed 2065 grams. He has an infection in one of his eyes and is being treated with antibiotics.
  • 10th-- Timothy's eye is doing well he will be on antibiotics for the rest of today. His weight is up to 2100 grams. He is in an open crib now. Yesterday Timothy ate from his bottle every other feeding and took all 46 ccs from the bottle. The dr. increased him to 48 ccs at each feeding now
  • 11th-- Timothy lost just a little bit of weight he is now at 2095 grams. The dr. decided to do one more day of antibiotics on his eye. He is still taking a bottle every other feeding. Timothy had an apnea spell today.
  • 12th-- Timothy weighed in at 2140 grams!!!! His birth weight. Today his nipple feedings have been increased to 2 out of 3. He has to drink at least 48 cc's each feeding but there is no longer a limit on how much he can have. He usually eats around 60 ccs. His eye has cleared up and he is no longer on the antibiotics and they also removed his feeding tube and will just insert one at his two tube feedings today.
  • 13th-- Today Timothy's weight is an amazing 2205 grams. The dr. has taken off all his eating restrictions, he can eat as little or as much as he wants. Today he is being tube feed at every feeding. The great news is if he does well today with his feedings Timothy Allan will be able to come home tomorrow or Sunday.
  • 14th-- Timothy did just fine on all his feedings, unfortunately he failed the car seat test* twice yesterday, so he is unable to come home today. The test will be done once a day until he passes and he'll be released the following day. He weighed in at 2225 grams. Today Timothy had his Hep. B shot. UPDATE: Timothy did not pass his car seat test today. He will try again tomorrow afternoon. Timothy had an apnea spell today at his feeding. The dr. has decided to send Timothy home with an apnea monitor.
  • 15th-- Timothy failed the car seat test today in the first 30 minutes. We are talking with his drs. to determine what options we have. The dr. is going to check in the morning and see about us getting a car bed for him.
  • 16th-- Timothy weighed in today at 2300 grams. (Just over 5 pounds) We are still looking into the car bed. Timothy is going to try again today to pass his test.
  • 17th-- Timothy passed his car seat test twice yesterday. We are very happy to announce that Timothy came home from the hospital today. He goes to the dr. on Monday. Come back often for more updates on Timothy Allan. Timothy weighs 5 pounds 2 ounces.
  • 24th-- Timothy had his first check up today after being home for a week. We were somewhat concerned because he was having problems over the last couple of days tolerating his formula (Prosobee). At the dr. today Timothy weighed 5 pounds 1 ounce and was 18 inches long. (Birth was 4 pounds 11ounces and 17 1/2 inches long). The dr. changed his formula to Lactofree and put him back on the 24 cal. He goes back to the dr. next Tuesday for a weight check and for his circumcision.

  • Explanations:
  • Feeding tube is NJ it goes in through his nose past his stomach and into the intestines.
  • 1 pound=454 grams
  • In the car seat test he is placed in the seat for 90 minutes while hooked up to his machine and the nurse monitors his condition. Timothy's problem is that his oxygen level drops to low while in his seat.
