Yearning For Love Part 2

written by: Stina

On July 15th, my birthday, I got up and looked at my calendar that had been in my room ever since my 3rd birthday. Daddy has circled my birthday and I had memorized it. I looked at the new calendar in the kitchen and saw that today was the 15th!! It's my birthday!! I smiled and looked around and then my smile faded. I remembered, mommy is probably out again. I looked in my mother's room. She went with her friends to the happy place, I thought. That's what mom called it. It really was a bar, but I didn't know that at the time.

I cried silently, remembering last year when mommy started going out and daddy started getting angry, but on my birthday they didn't fight. They did everything for me. I cried some more. They did everything for me. They always did until daddy left because mommy would go out with her friends too much.

"Happy birthday… to me" I cried, "Happy birthday to me… Happy 4th birthday to Hailey Collistar, Happy Birthday to me." I sat down in the middle of the kitchen, half-singing, half-crying. Then Jimmy woke up. He had turned 1 the week before. I made him a little bit of peanut butter and sugar in a bowl, my own creation. He never had it before and that was my present to him, his only present.

"Up ,up ,up!" "I'm coming Jim-Jim. Hold on!" I walked into his room. "Hay-wee!" Jimmy said, trying to say my name. "Very good, Jimmy!" "I wuvs ya, sis." Jimmy said. "I love you too, Jim- Jim." I pulled him out of his crib and onto the floor. I went out and watched TV, while Jimmy looked out the window, like he always did. "Truck! Big truck!" Jimmy exclaimed. I went to the window to see what he was talking about. There was a big moving van parked next door. I happily went over, taking Jimmy with me. I walked onto the porch, peering into the house through the front door, which had been left open. A pretty lady came to the door.

"Hi ,sweetie. Who are you?" "Are you going to live here?" I said without even stating my name. "Yes. What's your name?" "I'm Hailey and this is Jimmy." "Well hello, Hailey. I'm Jane. Where do you live?" Jane asked. "Right there." I said pointing to my house. "I think you are my little daughter's age. How old are you?" "I'm 4!" I said, holding up 4 fingers. "Oh, you're just a little older than B.J. Does your mommy know you're here?" "No, she's sick and she's in her room." "Well maybe if you tell your mommy, you can come in and play with B.J." "Ok, I'll go tell her!!" I said, happy to have something to do. I ran home to tell my mom. "Mommy, can I go play with B.J.?" "Who's that and didn't I say not to bother me when I'm in my room?" "Yes, but mommy… you're always in your room!" "That will be enough out of your mouth!! How can you be so selfish?! Mommy is sick and needs peace and quiet so you storm in here?! You are such a brat! You may NOT play with B.J.!" "Yes, mommy." I said as I lowered my eyes to the ground. "Oh, stop your whining! You can play with B.J. tomorrow!"

I left the room and started crying. I'm so stupid! I should have known not to be selfish! I am such a selfish brat! , I thought to myself. The next day……….. Jimmy woke me up this time. "Hay-wee! Time up! Time fo up!" "Ok, ok, time to get up, Jim-Jim." I was excited, I get to play with B.J. today!

I walked out in the living room and saw my mom. "Where are you going?" "You said I could go to B.J's house." "Ok, but there are some rules, if you break any of them you will NEVER leave the house again!" "Ok." "The rules are… 1, Do not EVER tell anyone mommy is sick! If someone asks just tell them mommy is at work. 2, you will NEVER leave your brother alone. Take him with you. Now go!" "Ok mommy. Thank you!!" and with that, I ran out the door. I went over to B.J's house and knocked on the door. A blond boy came to the door. "Are you B.J.?" I asked. "EEEEEW,NO! B.J. is a girl! I am Nick. B.J. is not here right now. She's supposed to come home in 5 minutes." He said. "Ok. How old are you? I am this many!" I said, holding up four fingers. "Well I am 5. I'm a big boy!" "Oh." I said, sitting down on a chair.

Jane came into the room. "Oh hi, Hailey! B.J. is up in her room now. I'll take you up there." I took her hand and Jimmy and I went upstairs. I met B.J. and played with her for 1/2 hour. Then I realized she was boring. I was smart for a 4 year old and she was an average 3 year old. Absolutely nothing in common. I walked downstairs and over to Jane. "I don't like B.J." I simply stated. "Oh! Well…" Jane started, taken aback by my bluntness. "Maybe she's a little young for you, you're very smart for your age. Maybe you should go see if Nick wants to play. He's in the living room playing Nintendo." "What's that?" I asked. "Oh dear! You don't know?! I'd better get you to Nick. Nick, this young lady here doesn't know what Nintendo is!" Nick looked at me like I was weird, which I was used to from my mom. "That's a funny joke… I guess." "Not a joke, Nick." Jane said. Nick's eyes got wide and he dragged me over to the Nintendo. Jane laughed and went back to chopping broccoli (Chopping broccoli..LOL!! inside joke, people. If you saw the SNL with the best of Dana Carvey, you know what I mean.) in the kitchen.

Nick taught me how to play Nintendo and we had a great time. After a while I went home. "Where have you been, stupid? Are you so dumb, you forget to tell me where you were going?!" "I told you I was going to B.J's house, mommy." I said. "Don't talk back to me, you reject! You are to stay in your room until tomorrow morning, do you understand?" "Sorry mommy. I understand." I said, sadly and took Jimmy and went to our room. I thought about how stupid I was, but why did Jane say I was smart? The next morning I woke up and found my mom gone. After I gave Jimmy a bottle, we went to Nick's house. Nick and I again played Nintendo. We had so much fun and I never felt happier in my life. For the next 9 years nick and I would play many Nintendo games and become best friends in the process.
