The oldest living immortal. A myth. He is a survivor, who makes due by his
instincts and manipulations. He is also known as Adam Pierson, a watcher.
So much should be said about such a mysterious immortal, but so much is left
unknown.
This page tries to give you a feel for the most enigmatic man on earth. Below
are some quotes, info. on what we learned in each episode, and links.
From his own words:
(you have no idea how hard it is to choose these, he has so many good
lines!)
(From "Methos" Season Three)
Methos: "Live. Grow stronger. Fight another day."
(From "Finale I" Season Three)
Methos: "What were you expecting? Einstein? Freud? Buddha? Im just a guy."
(From "Timeless" Season Four)
Methos: "I see that I leave you speechless. This is an excellent start."
Alexa: "Start to what?!?"
Methos: "To. . . dinner, a film, a concert, a smile, a sunset, a walk,. . .all
of the above. . . .whatever you would like."
(From "Timeless" Season Four)
Methos: "Because the alternative is unthinkable!"
(From "Timeless" Season Four)
"You spend whatever time you have left dying, or you spend it living,. . . with
me."
(From "Methuselah's Gift" Season Four)
Methos: "You understand nothing! Three weeks ago we were standing on the beach
on Santorini watching the sunset on the Mediterranean. Now she is lying in a
hospital in Switzerland, breathing through a tube.
Do you think it takes courage to do what we do? To face another immortal
with a sword? You try being her!!!"
(From "Methuselah's Gift" Season Four)
Methos: "Shell never know how close I came."
Duncan: "Shell know how much you love her."
Methos: "As much as I can, for as long as she lives."
(From "Comes A Horseman" Season Five)
Methos: "I killed. But I didnt just kill fifty, I didnt kill a hundred, I
killed one thousand! I killed ten thousand! And I was good at it. And it wasnt
for vengeance. It wasnt for greed. It was because. . .I liked it.
Cassandra was nothing. Her village was nothing.
But do you know who I was? . . . .I was Death. [laughter] Death, Death on a
horse. When
mothers warned their children that the monster would get them, that
monster was me. I was the nightmare that kept them awake at night. Is
that what you wanted to hear?"
(From "Indiscretions" Season Six)
Methos: "Just because I don't like to kill doesn't mean I can't!"
Methos: "Don't go MacLeod!"
Duncan: "I have no choice."
Methos: "That is existencially inaccurate! . . . . ALLRIGHT! I'll come with
you."
What I've attempted to do is give a little blurb about Methos's role and what
we learn of him in each episode. Personally I think it's quite fascinating how
we learned of him. First he was the legend, then the oldest immortal falling
for Alexa, then one of the Horsemen. Throughout all though, he is mysterious,
calculating and manipulative. The man without a conscience.
When Duncan calls Joe to find out about Kalas, he tells Joe that a watcher at
Shakespeare & Co. has been killed. Joe informs Duncan that Salzer, the
watcher, was working on the Methos Chronicle, and we first hear of the legend.
Methos, the oldest immortal alive, a myth.
Joe sends Duncan to another watcher, Adam Pierson. When Duncan arrives he feels
the presence of an immortal and enters the apartment. As he steps into Adam's
room, Adam removes his head phones and tosses him a beer. Duncan's eyes grow
wide as he realizes that Adam and Methos are one and the same.
After Kalas finds Methos (commenting that he has a journal that was rather
interesting to read), they fight and Methos realizes he can not win. He
confronts Duncan and offers him his head.
The legend returns with his buddy, Joe, to take care of some Watcher business.
Christine Salzer is threatening to take an interactive data base Methos and
Salzer had been working on to the press. Methos tries to abate her fears by
revealing his immortality to her.
After Kalas obtains the CD, Methos talks with Duncan. He talks about how in 93
AD he watched as Christians were fed to the lions in Rome, and also mentions
that every cloud has a silver lining- "If you're killed, Amanda will be free to
date."
Methos arrives to warn Duncan that Kristen is in town. He debates the idea of
Chivalry with MacLeod and ends up getting his nose painted. In the end he takes
Kristin's head when MacLeod wont.
Timeless
Methos meets and falls in love with Alexa Bond. He tries to date her, and finds
that she is dying. He convinces her to leave with him to spend the rest of her
time traveling the world.
Deliverance
Methos leaves Alexa's side to follow Duncan after his dark quickening. After
Duncan is shot for sleeping with the Captains wife, Methos takes him to a
church. There Duncan threatens him, and leaves in a stolen car. Methos catches
up with him again when Duncan meets Sean Burns. He moves to take Duncan's head,
but Duncan catches him off guard and shoves him over an embankment ("I'm
getting to old for this!").
Methos then find Duncan in Darius's church (with one of my favorite Highlander
moments of all time) and convinces Duncan to let him help. He takes Duncan to a
sacred spring where Duncan
fights his inner battle.
Methuselah's
Gift
Methos leaves Alexa again in the hopes of finding a way to save her. He
researches the Methuselah's
crystal. After a confrontation with Amanda, they break in to the Watcher's
headquarters and retrieve the crystal. When they are caught Methos is shot and
his immortality discovered. He almost looses his head, but is used to trade for
the crystal. During the trade the cyrstal is made whole and transformed, but
shortly therafter falls into the river, and Methos returns to Alexa's
side.
Through A Glass,
Darkly
After attending Alexa's grave, Duncan and Methos find Warren Cochrane. Methos
then goes about saving some watcher documents from a basement flood at
Shakespeare & Co. and helps Duncan find out what he can about
Warren.
Till Death
Duncan comes home to find Methos meditating on the Barge, as his apartment is
being sold. Methos agrees to help join Robert and Gina together again, in
exchange for the barge, and we find out that he has been married 68 times. He
also mentions that in 765 AD he crossed the Atlantic with Irish monks, without
facilities, and now hates the sea. He
'fights' Robert, which successfully brings the couple back together, but
afterwards is found by an enraged Gina. In the end he gives Duncan the
barge back.
Judgement Day
Methos is caught between being a watcher and an immortal. He tries to defend
Joe against the watcher tribunal and keep Duncan from being assasinated by
watchers.
Season Five
One Minute to Midnight
Methos helps doctor Joe(who was shot), and while doing so comments that he
learned medicine in Hidelberg in 1453. He helps Joe get in to watcher
headquarters, and then helps to turn Jacob Galati in to
the watchers. He
then realizes that he is being torn and has turned in one of his own. He once
again disappears.
The Messenger
Methos returns, only to find he has an immitator. He meets with the other
Methos and divulges his true identity to Richie. He also manipulates Duncan
into helping Richie, by telling the story of a man who died at the hands of the
Spanish Inquisition but maintained his integrity. (To quote Joe: "You are one
calculating son of a bitch!")
The Valkyrie
Methos joins Joe and Duncan to watch a prize fight in Charlie DeSalvo's honor.
When Ingrid arrives he becomes shy' and leaves. He watches Duncan through
another one of his moral dilema's, and you're never quite sure if he's playing
the devils advocate or not. He's there after Duncan kills Ingrid, to give him
the answer to Ingrid's question of what differntiated Duncan killing Ingrid
from Ingrid killing tyrants. So who judges me?' (Don't you love it when an
answer is a question?)
Comes a Horseman and
Revelations 6:8
Methos plays in a game show, and looses as he doesn't know who popularized the
Twist. When they sense an immortal he leaves. While trying to leave town he
senses an immortal and turns around to receive a knife in the chest and Kronos
appears with "Greetings brother."
Through Cassandra's flashback we learn that he rode with the horseman in the
bronze age. He killes' Cassandra and keeps her for his own, not telling her
about her immortality and using death as a way to control her. When Kronos
challenges him for her, Methos simply lets her go.
Methos was the brain of the horseman, and he helps Kronos unite them again. He
plays back and forth, always manipulating, and no one's ever quite sure what
side he is on. He comes up with a plan for Kronos, but consistantly warns
Duncan. Kronos sends him to kill Cassandra, and he fights with Silas, taking
his head.
Forgive Us Our
Trespasses
Amanda runs to Methos to find help when she fears Duncan's giving up to Keane.
Methos meets Duncan, and when Duncan won't listen, shoots him: "You're such a
pain in the ass!"
He fights Keane (and I just love how he never gives other immortals his name).
When he slips Keane strikes to finish him, but Methos blocks and pulls out a
dagger, embedding it deep in Keane: "You Bastard"
Methos: "Sticks and Stones"
Duncan arrives and refuses to let Methos kill Keane.
Amanda turns to Methos again after Duncan turns her in for numerous jewel
thefts, and he joins them both for a drink after Duncan's fight with Keane is
over.
The Modern
Prometheus
While having a drink with Joe and Duncan, Methos runs into his old friend
Byron. He tries to keep Duncan and Byron apart, but in the end can't verbally
defend Byron.
In the flashback we see 1816 Switzerland. The good doctor is spending some
time with Lord Byron and the Shelley's. He helps Mrs. Shelley who is sick, and
later explains immortality to her after she witnesses Byron killing an
immortal.
Methos does not believe in Ahriman, and is helping Joe out. He and Joe arrive
to find Richie dead at Duncan's hands. He refuses to take Duncan's head and
then cradles a sobbing Joe in his arms.
Season Six
Indiscretions
Methos runs in to DePasqua. He doesn't fight him, but breaks into the watchers
to find DePasqua's file so he can avoid him. Joe finds him there, and Methos
tells him why Depasque is after him. In1808 New Orleans, Methos was Dr.
Benjamin Edwards. He administered to slaves and slept with the 'favored' slave
of Morgan Walker, and she is killed because of it.
Joe goes to Methos for help, as DePasqua has kidnapped a watcher. Methos helps
Joe escape from DePasqua's men, but they run out of gas. When Methos has
disposed of DePasque's men, he follows Joe's directions to an abandoned
powerhouse, talking with him the whole way. When they arrive Methos gets Joe to
confess it's a set up. He fights DePasque and wins.
To Be
Having a drink with Joe, Methos learns of Amanda's abduction and joins MacLeod
in his attempts to free Amanda and Joe. He turns up unexpectedly and shoots
O'Rourke.
Not To Be
(I won't go into the other' Methos)
Methos revives Duncan and then is shot by one of O'Rourke's men. When he
recovers he takes O'Rourke's man down and dresses in his clothes, returns
holding Duncan prisoner, and shoots the last man of O'Rourkes to even out the
game.
Endgame
Endgame
Endgame takes place in (roughly) 2002. At this time Methos is living in London when Duncan comes to him, asking him for information on Conner. Not only is it apparent that Methos knows Conner, he also knows much about Sanctuary, and is the one who says it is on holy ground. He then helps Joe rescue Duncan from the Sanctuary and takes him to the immortals grave.
"Did I mention about all this coming to a bad end?"
