melodic noise

Some random and incomplete examples of music I like. Basically, it has to sound good. That sounds kind of like common sense, but it doesn't always apply to popular music. Have you ever heard an Everclear song? What a bunch of crap. Indifferent vocals and repetetive guitars. That just won't do. Go buy "File Under: Easy Listening", by Sugar (you can probably buy a copy at Border's in Torrance for $4), and listen to 3 seconds of the first track. It'll knock you on your ass. It doesn't have to be an orthodox kinda "sound good" either. It can be Black Francis screaming at the top of his lungs with Kim Deal yelling "ra RA ra RA ra RA ra RA" on River Euphrates (Pixies, Surfer Rosa, track 6). It can be Nil Lara groaning "...and I know how it f e e l s...I've been burned one time before..." on Fighting For My Love (Nil Lara, Nil Lara, track 2). Go out, explore, be adventurous. It can be Dizzy Gillespie stopping to say "saltpeanuts! saltpeanuts!" in the middle of a trumpet solo, with the static fuzz of an old recording that only serves to enhance the experience (Charlie Parker," 'Round Midnight" and Other Gems, track 10). Stop giving a shit about what other people think. Go out there and play around. Listen to what sounds good.

what sounds good to me, quite an odd bunch:

tv

TV generally sucks, and is most likely a purer form of evil. Thus, I don't watch much TV.

But when I do, I watch:

movin' pictures

I love movies. My favorite director would definitely be John Woo. I've been a big fan ever since I saw "The Killer". I've already seen "Face/Off" twice and I've been desperately searching for his movies. The only ones that I own are "The Killer" and "Hard Boiled". Chow-Yun Fat kicks ass!

Some of my other favorite movies include: L.A. Confidential, The Full Monty, Sling Blade, Life Of Brian (or anything, from Monty Python, for that matter), Terminator 2, Die Hard, and did I mention Hard Boiled and The Killer? A helluva lot more should be on here but I don't remember them at the moment. Go find 'em up at the IMDB.
