Another Day In Paradise

And is directed by Sergey Dvortsevoy and Larry Clark. Larry Clark directed the gritty, tell-it-like-it-is movie "Kids". And if you've read the book "Another Day In Paradise" you'll know what I mean when I say this movie is going to have a lot of grit! The book was written by Eddie Little and should be available at your local library and I do recommend reading it, although it definitely is a rated 'R' book just like the movie is going to be! It has a lot of harsh language, drug use, violence and sexual situations, so be prepared, and don't say I didn't warn you!

Here's a basic run-down of the story:

Bobbie is a teenager that really has no home, his father is very abusive, so he lives in an abandoned building with Rosie, his girlfriend, who is a prostitute. They are typical 'street kids'. The only way Bobbie and Rosie can survive and feed their drug habits are for Rosie to sleep with men for money and Bobbie to rob and steal. At the beginning of the book Bobbie is trying to steal money from snack machines and gets caught and beat up pretty bad. One of his friends tells his uncle Mel that Bobbie needs help. Mel nurses Bobbie back to health and that is the start of their relationship. From there Mel takes Bobbie and Rosie to meet Syd, Mel's girlfriend. Mel and Syd teaches Bobbie and Rosie how to steal and rob on a larger level (peoples houses etc...). Mel also introduces Bobbie to heroin and he developes a major drug problem. Throughout the book Bobbie ends up being shot, beat up and drugged out, he also, robs, kills, beats people up, main lines heroin and has lots of sex with Rosie.

About Melanie Griffith

She was supposed to play Syd, Mel's girlfriend. But I believe she changed her mind when she read the script. So at this point I'm not sure if she is going to be in the movie or not. If I find anything out between now and the release of the movie I'll put it in the "What I've Heard" section, so be sure to check there.

The Status Of The Movie

It started shoting on December 1st 1997. It is now finished shooting and is in the stages of editing. It probably will not be released until very late this year or early next year. I think it was shot entirely in Los Angeles, although it was listed as being shot in Tulsa, OK and LA. The Internet Movie Database seems to think it was also shot in Russia! But I don't know anything to confirm or deny this.

"Apple Valley teen Vincent Kartheiser, who has had major roles in such films as 'Masterminds', 'Alaska' and 'The Indian In The Cupboard', is about to make a provocative career move. They're all family movies, but his next project definitely isn't. According to Movieline magazine, Kartheiser has signed to star in 'Another Day In Paradise', a drama directed by Larry Clark ('Kids').
