In 1992, Appallachian Hall in Asheville, N.C. was a private hospital
for not not only psychiatric "Mental Health" disorders, but also had an
intensive treatment plan for "Alcoholics" as well. After many visits to
different hospitals searching for my freedom, this was where I found the
light at the end of the tunnel. The hospital was absolutely beautiful and
the program was extremely intense.
I started out with extremely small steps, but soon learned that I was using everything that was offered to me in order to reach my goals. Although, I did not have problems with alcohol, I was interested in attending the "12 STEP PROGRAM FOR ALCOHOLICS" and felt from what I had learned that everyone is co-dependent on each other in one way or another. When I found the "12 STEPS FOR CO-DEPENDENTS ANONYMOUS", and began to research this - I learned myself that - it was time to stop trying to help everyone else and focus on myself.
This is difficult for people that suffer with anxiety, pd, agoraphobia, ect. because we all have characteristics of caregivers. We want to be people pleasers! Sometimes it is easier to focus on someone else's problems than it is our own, but it is time for each of us to take more time out for ourselves and learn that we cannot fix other people. Certainly this will not apply to everyone and I hope that I have not affended anyone, but I do feel that we are all on a journey of learning as much as we can to benefit ourselves "Melody Beattie" author of CODEPENDENTS' GUIDE TO THE TWELVE STEPS is absolutely wonderful. I have this on audio and it is beautifully done with questions that we should ask ourselves. I would certainly recommend it. I briefly touched on my "1992 RECOVERY" and will discuss this in more detail on another page.
