As
you know, Hyde is pronouced 'Haido' in japanese. You've
probably noticed by now that I am indeed spelling it 'H-y-d-e',
but for this particular chapter, if someone is talking to
Hyde, it'll be spelled 'H-a-i-d-o' since that's how it is
in japanese. In other words, I'm using both spellings.
I suppose that makes sense? If it doesn't, I'm sorry
*has troubles with giving explanations.* It's just
that people started getting
confused and were bugging me about this so... x_X;
In
my opinion, this chapter wasn't too good... in fact, the
story as a whole I don't think is too good because this
is the first ever Laruku fic I wrote back in '96-- yes,
when I was eight years old u.u; I revised it a little, but
it's not all that good. Nonetheless, you can at least
review it if you are reading it and give a little feedback
on it and later this year some of my better work will be
posted on ff.net as well. In the meantime, I beg of
you, visit my J-Rock/Pop Fanfiction Archive I've just started!

Part 2 - [ Hourglass ]
"Moshi
moshi?" said a sleepy Hyde at four o'clock in the morning.
"Haido!
It's me Ken," panted Ken; he sounded very short of breath.
"Ken?
What's wrong?" Hyde questioned, sitting up in his bed, starting
to worry immediately.
"I'm
at Tokyo Eastern Hospital... Tetsu..." Ken's voice cracked.
/Oh
god, what has happened Tetsu?/ "Tetsu what? What are you
saying Ken?"
Slight
pause.
"Tetsu
is here in the hopsital, Hideto. He hardly ever drinks,
and if he does, not heavy, yet he for some reason or another
did this time... and took an overdose of pills. He's
in coma, and the doctors say he won't come out of it. I
know tomorrow is the big day for you and Megumi, but really
you should vi -- Haido?" No answer. The reason of
Ken stopping in mid sentence was the complete silence on
the other end. "Haido?"
Hyde
had already ran downstairs in his robe, grabbed his keys,
and on his way to the hospital.
----------
"Ken,
Yukihiro!" shouted Hyde, running his way towards them.
"Haido,
so glad you're here," replied Yukihiro breathlessly, which
was very unlike him -- and the fact that he wasn't stuffing
chocolate in his mouth. "Tetsu is in ICU... he is
in critical condition."
Hurt,
extreme sadness, and question started to mix in Hyde's eyes.
"Why... why would he do such a --" he cut his own
self short and looked at his other two remaining bandmates
with wide eyes. "It's me, isn't it? I caused him to
do this; I was angry with him about what he said about Megumi
and it caused him to --"
"Don't say that," Ken said sharply, now sitting in one of
the waiting room chairs; his face buried in his hands. "This
has been Tetsu's fate ever since he's met you. I
guess he has put the true meaning to the phrase 'love hurts.'"
"What
did you say, Ken?"
"Nothing."
/Haido
didn't hear what I said; good. Tetsu would never forgive
me for saying something mean like that to Haido. Really,
I don't know what came over me to say that to him; god,
I hope you're okay Tetsu... it's already hell here without
you in our presence.../
Hyde
may have not heard it, but Yukihiro picked up on what Ken
had mumbled under his breath. /His fate ever since
he has met Haido? What does that suppose to mean?/
The
three were in sorrow; a deafening silence stretching among
them. They were ever so startled when one of the head
doctors started talking because they were so caught up,
they hadn't notcied him walk in. They arose from their
seats quickly.
"Is
he going to be okay? How is he?" asked Hyde, taking the
tissue the doctor offered him, blowing his nose stentoriously.
"Mr.
Ogawa is still in critical condition and deeper in coma
than he was before. There is also another problem:
the artificial breathing machine we have him on isn't being
real effective on him and he needs that to help him stay
alive until he can breath on his own again."
At
this news, Hyde's brain could only flicker one thing: see
Tetsu. "I want to see him," said Hyde as firmly as
he could, despite his efforts, his voice cracked anyway.
"I'm
sorry, but you ca --"
"Why
tell us all this bad news then? You might be a doctor, but
you're not even using your god given five senses! Nor are
you thinking of the teachings of Buddha... think about what
you're saying --"
"That's
enough Haido -- sorry doctor, he's a little upset right
--"
"No
Ken, don't try to shut me up because right now that's impossible.
Doctor, why tell us all of this? Telling us he may
not live and things such as that? You know if we care about
him we're going to want to see him... to be by his side...
we're only human, so we have no control over those feelings
sometimes..."
No
reply whatsoever from the doctor; it seemed he was flabbergasted
at Hyde's words. "Fuck this," muttered
Hyde angrily, walking past the doctor in search of Tetsu's
room.
"I
think it's room C296!" shouted Yukihiro loud enough for
Hyde to hear him. Hyde threw up a peace sign, indicating
he'd heard him.
----------
After
around twenty minutes of wandering about without asking
for any assistance, Hyde finally reached his destination.
He quietly opened the door; only to find a large glass
(wall-like) separating him and Tetsu. /Oh gods, Tetsu.../
Hyde peered through the glass; nothing but equipment...
no furniture, no windows, not much of anything that you're
used to seeing in a regular hospital room. /This is
ICU afterall... I guess it doesn't have any of those things...
at least the bed Tetsu is in a bed thrice as large as regular
hospital beds and it look comfortable... good... Tetsu deserves
only the best./ Hyde slid down the glass wall; a few minutes
later, he started to cry. /This...
is all my fault.../
Hyde
was startled when a hand was placed on his shoulder. It
was the same doctor from earlier. "You must really
care about him," Hyde nodded.
Silence.
"Friend,
lover, relative?" Hyde looked up at the doctor, metagrobolized.
/What would make him think we're...?/
"Friend,"
Hyde finally answered, hoarsely.
"Ah,
I see." Hyde had the strange feeling the doctor didn't believe
his answer even though it was the truth. Silence settled
back into place. The doctor finally broke it by saying,
"I know how it feels to lose someone, or to see a
loved one suffering and in pain, feeling there's something
you could've done to prevent it, Mr. Takarai."
"...Please,
please try your best to save him, doctor."
The doctor looked at Hyde, then Tetsu, and cast his eyes
down to the floor. "Mr. Takarai, we have the latest
technology and best facilities on the continent of Asia."
"What
is the problem then?"
"The problem is apparent. I've been a doctor for fourteen
years, and I've seen things like this everyday... the problem
is simply the fact that Mr. Ogawa does not want to be saved..."
"What
are you trying to say?"
"What
I'm saying is, he is suffering from a broken heart... something
we can't mend together."
Hyde
looked back up at the doctor. He was not about to
believe that. "Doctor," he began, a note of nonchalant
in his voice. "Do you actually think I believe you?
Really, I think that fourteen years has gotten to your --"
"Don't believe me, Mr. Takarai; you don't have to. However,
let me give you some advice: don't let someone you love
dearly slip through your fingers... I lost someone who I
never got to confess my true feelings to and have felt guilty
ever since; because in the end, she died. Don't let
the same happen to you."
Hyde
nodded. The doctor wasn't as inconsiderate as he'd
thought.
"Well,
I'll leave you alone now; I initially came to let you inside
so you could be with Mr. Ogawa for a while and I plan to
stick by that; that is, if you would like to --"
"Yes,
of course. Arigatou."
"Very
well," the doctor then placed his left hand on the glass,
which activated the computer to do an ID scan on it. Soon
the print evanesced and the glass gradually started to ascend.
"Since
Mr. Ogawa is here in ICU, his time for visitors is
very brief. It's a total of twenty minutes, so I'm
giving you ten minutes to be here solely with him, and the
other ten I'll invite your other two friends in here."
The
doctor left the room. Hyde was nearing tears again.
/I can't cry; I must be strong for Tetsu.../ He stroked
Tetsu's hair gently. Tetsu laid there, lifeless. "Oh
gods, Tetsu! Look... look at what I've done to you... my
best, my only friend... I'm loosing you..." He began to
vociferate; he didn't even really realize it. Hyde
then took one of Tetsu's exanimated hands and brushed it
along his cheek. Hyde felt demeritorious.
"Hideto,
it's not your fault, okay? Don't feel bad," said Yukihiro,
who was walking in, followed by Ken. "Hn."
"I'm serious, Haido, and it's not anybody else's fault either.
It's just something that happened, you know? Like
a test... to test us as not only bandmates, but most substantially,
as friends."
Hyde
and Ken nodded in agreement. "Who is going to stay
with Tetsu tonight? I asked some of the officials of this
hospital and was told one of us could stay the night; I'll
be glad to stay," said Ken, on the verge of tears
as well.
"No
Ken, I'll stay; it's not like I have a fiancee or wife to
go to or anything and besides, I don't mind staying with
Tet-tet anyway."
"Are
you... sure?"
"Positive,
Haido."
Ken
looked up and faintly smiled. "Yukkie gets food from
his favorite fast food resturant tomorrow for staying with
Tetsu all by himself." Despite the situation, Yukihiro glowed
at those words. Ken and Hyde smiled briefly and for
that moment, the three forgot their sorrowful state.
"Well,
time is almost up for us, so I think I'll head for home
now," said Ken, slumberously, squeezing Tetsu's hand, since
he couldn't do hardly anything else, because of the coverings
on Tetsu's body.
"Oyasumi
Ken-chan!" said Yukihiro & Hyde together, trying to
be as cheerful as possible.
"Oyasumi
Haido, Yukkie. Ja." Ken was gone.
"Poor
Ken," said Hyde softly. "He and Tetsu have been friends
since elementary..." /Yes, even I sometime am jealous
of their friendship.../ "I know it hurts Ken to see him
[Tetsu] this way; hell, he hasn't smoked not one cigarette
today."
Yukihiro
looked up and faintly smiled, "I haven't either, and neither
have you, Haido, and you're the one who has to have at least
two packages a day." He made a strong point.
"Well
Yukkie," said Hyde, sleepily, yet seriously, "I guess we're
all too flustered and disturbed to be going about our usual
habbits."
Yukihiro
nodded in agreement.
"Oyasumi,
Yukkie."
"Oyasumi,
Haido. Take care of yourself."
"You
too. Ja."
"Ja."

\"Bassist
and bandleader of the invincible rock band, L'Arc-en-Ciel,
Ogawa Tetsuya, is currently at the Tokyo Eastern Hospital
and in critical condition. At approximately three
fifteen this morning, he was rushed in the hospital, going
straight to ICU, near death. It is told by one of
the head doctors to our reporter that Ogawa dranked nonstop
for seven hours straight before taking an overdose of pills.
It was only this morning, a whole day after he'd done
this, was he discovered. Dr. Yeukonai, one of the
head doctors of Tokyo's Osteopathy & Psychiatry Department,
told a reporter, " 'He was in very abysmal depression and
even in his intoxicated state, we think that Mr. Ogawa knew
exactly what he was doing when taking the overdosage [of
medication]. ' " This statement made by Dr. Yeukonai is
one that has us all befuddled as to why and how could this
extremely successful twenty-nine-year-old could be depressed.
This is all the information that has been unfold at
this time and we'll bring you up-to-date, giving you the
latest coverage on Tetsu's condition.
Hyde
sighed heavily as he turned off his built-in tv. /The
same on every channel, every radio station, I won't be surprised
if it's in the newpaper... and I thought I was the most
popular of the band/ Hyde chuckled bitterly. /What
these people are saying though makes me wonder... did he
really know what he was doing when taking the overdosage?
I think the answer is yes... because why would he start
drinking nonstop in the first place?.../
Hyde
pulled up in the car garage of his recently built mansion,
got out of his car, and pulled out his keys from his pocket.
Putting the key in the keyhold, he was baffled as
to why it was already unlocked. /What the...? Oh god,
either it's a obsessed fan, thief,
or --/ "Megumi?"
Hyde was surprised to see Megumi coming down the main staircase,
motioning toward him.
"Haido,
baby, you're home," said Megumi, gently kissing Hyde on
the lips. Lovingly,
yet mind slightly astray, Hyde returned the kiss.
"Are
you okay, angel?" Megumi
gently caressed his cheek. /Angel... that's what Sakura
used to call me.../
"Yes
dear, I'm fine." He smiled reassuringly.
"Alright,
well in that case..." Megumi took his hand and started to
motion him upstairs, but stopped when Hyde started to resist.
"What
are you doing here? Tonight really isn't the time --"
"I
thought you would say something like that, that's why I
came over... to get your mind off our big day tomorrow by
getting you relaxed. I was thinking of taking a nice
shower together, followed by a massage, and then I was going
to head back to my place.
/...Does
she not know about Tetsu?.../ "Dear, do you have any
idea that Tetsu is in the hospital?" he asked quietly as
if other people were in the chateau and he only wanted her
to hear it.
"Yes,
I do angel."
Hyde
slightly twitched. "Well we can't possibly have --"
"But
tomorrow is supposed to be our wedding day!"
"Yes, it was supposed to be tomorrow but Tetsu is
on the brink of death, Megumi," said Hyde austerely, something
not usually heard in his voice. He felt fury slowly
arise in his body, however, still tried to stay calm and
patient with his future wife; thinking she was misunderstanding
the situation.
"I
know but tomorrow is our big day! We can't let one of your
fellow band members who was stupid and maniac enough to
injure himself like that to ruin it for us. Leave
him for dead, he's almost there anyway."
Hyde
snapped his head to look at Megumi in disgust. "Megumi,
do you even remember how I got the chance to meet you? Tetsu
knew I liked you and he's the one who made us meeting each
other happen. However, here you are, being a thoughtless
bitch... just like Tetsu said you were... to think, I got
mad at him for saying that..."
Megumi's
face had gone to cheerful, to angry, to smug, and now back
to angry. "Well, well, it seems you'd be happier with
him. He was jealous reason he said that about
me and now, I guess you've turn gay as he is. You
know what, if you and him think I'm so thoughtless, call
off the wedding completely!"
Hyde
smiled, chuckling bitterly. "That's the most brilliant
idea yet, Megumi and you know what, I think I will follow
it. I'm not getting married to a horrible person --
no, monster, like you."
Megumi
started getting second thoughts. "Haido, baby, you
can't be serious, I didn't mean it like that. I was
just kiddi --"
"Get
out! Get the hell out of my house before I call the police
on trespassing charges!"
Megumi
spat of Hyde's face, grabbed her purse, and walked out;
slamming the stained glass door as hard as she could.
Hyde
sighed and washed his face; going into the den and plopping
on his ever so comfortable sofa soon after. Feeling
once upon a time he was young, but now, restless. /I
feel so... old. I feel like... I don't know... I'm
so confused... Times like these, Tetsu would be there; to
comfort me, to tell me everything will be alright, but now,
I don't, and I don't know what to do with myself...
it's my fault Tetsu is in the condition he's in, and I'm
determine to make it up to him.../
Hyde
closed his eyes; still furious about what Megumi said, but
also relieved to find out what he would've been marrying
before it was too late. Soon, he fell into a nice,
comfortable, dreamless, slumber.
