Rolling Chassis

Once the chassis painting is completed and all the aluminium panels fitted, the suspension components come next.

The frame was lifted onto saw horses to save my back. Front hubs, stubs and brakes are from Cortina TD (6 cyl). Wishbones are by Westfield. Note that the rear is without driveshafts and brake calipers as these were not supplied with the kit.

Once the suspension is on, the car (can I start calling it a car yet?) is lowered onto some wheels borrowed from my brother John. (His old rally Mk1 Escort) The steering column is KE30 Corolla and is just clamped in place at present. The rack is Escort quick rack with 2.5 turns lock to lock. The photo at right shows my daughter Anastasia at the wheel with her friend as passenger. At this point I resisted the temptation to push them up and down the road. Given the light weight it would not have been difficult.

From the rear, its starting to look purposeful.
