Jedi Apprentice #2: The Dark Rival - Jude Watson

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

The Story:

Qui-Gon Jinn's former apprentice, Xanatos, who had turned to the dark side of the Force, has brought Qui-Gon to Bandomeer to fall into a deadly trap. Obi-Wan Kenobi has been sent off to work with the Agricultural Corps. As Xanatos' evil plan with the Offworld Corporation falls into place, will the Jedi be able to save the local miners?

Review:

This is a great book, picking up right where The Rising Force left off. It's really interesting to see the bond form between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. It makes Qui-Gon's death seem much more meaningful.

Maybe it's just my fault for not paying enough attention at the begining, but to me, the charaters SonTag and VeerTa ran together. I just really couldn't differentiate them in my mind.

I did find two (and possibly more) misprints; one (on page 60) was that Obi-Wan's name was used rather than Qui-Gon's, and the other (page 97) was simply a typographical error ("bevause", need I say more?). While you can't really hold it against the story, these were distracting while reading. I'm going to try to contact the publisher to have them correct this for further editions.

Though it could have been longer, it's a really great book, and I can't wait to read the next one!
