The Story of the, rock band/non-stop party
The Drowning Waxmonkeys were formed in the month of September of the year, 1994. The band was started out of the extinct, presently labeled, Old School Waxmonkeys, which included, Nicholas Yeager (vocals), Eric Freitag (guitar), and Toto Miranda (drums)(current members of Satanic Bananas), Michael McGuff, Blake Willeford, and Jay Crossley. This band was concieved in December of 1993 by Nicholas, Eric, and Jay. Nicholas was the one with the original idea to actually start a band, although he has yet to learn how to play an instrument. Due to musical and personal differences, not restricted to girlfriends, Metallica, and the debate over a name, the Old School Waxmonkeys, as we now call them (Satanic Bananas, Drowning Waxmonkeys, Spooge, Omish Television, The Raving Drooling Loonatics, were all possible names), seperated as a band, and for some, as friends. The Satanic Bananas faction went on to recruit Nick Parker and a plethora of guitarists, and started playing shows in the Fall of 1994. Toto, Jay, and Blake jammed together during the summer and drafted Jonathan Dale to sing for the Drowning Waxmonkeys. The first song they did came to be called It's Strange. The other song developed in the first practice was a cover of Steve Miller's Joker which was twisted into The Christmas Joker, a strange take on the Holiday season. As time went on, and Toto acquired more symbols from the used box at Rockin Robin, it came time to get a gig. Jay called Fitzgerald's and manuevered into a Friday slot, a privilage not given to new bands, by convincing the manager that he was friends with Boodgand and that like them, they could get 150 people to show up for the show. They would play at Zelda's and, if all went well, and they got at least 85 people, they would get to play upstairs on the big stage. Needless to say, they never got more than 75 people to a single show. Sociologists agree that this lack of support was due to a lack of friends and not to the quality of the band.
Although a short-lived phenomenon, the Waxmonkeys rocked.
