Perhaps the one aspect of Ludwig's character for which he will always be remembered is his castles. Created for the fulfilment of the King's dreams, the castles have grown to be among the most popular and most visited sites in Germany. In fact Neuschwanstein has become a landmark famous throughout the world, although few actually know it's name. Starting in 1869, a few years after ascending the throne, and continuing well after the King's death, they offer us an insight to Ludwig's vision of the world.
