Marshal Vauban [1633-1707] was one of the great men of his age; arguably one of the greatest of all time. Born Sebastien Le Prestre, elevated to the rank & title of Marshal Vauban in later life, he was Louis XIV of France's most valued - and most frequently employed - military engineer.

"Whatever he invested, fell; whatever he defended, held."

One of France's greatest soldiers, dearly loved by his men and revered by peers & successors alike, he is without question history's greatest builder and conqueror of fortified places.

The Marshal Vauban Website has been created to assist those interested in the man & his work, and those otherwise generally interested in military history, to learn more about him and place his life in some context. In addition this website presents numerous carefully researched links which will direct the visitor to other sites on the world wide web that offer additional related material.
