FOUR-L MORGANS:

                              April, Magic and Charisma
Pictured here are Four-L April Dawn, Four-L Black Magic and Four-L Charisma

My first Morgan was a bay mare called Kilgoran Vixen - nickname Trixie.  Trixie was in foal to Big Oak Gay Brocade when I bought her in 1979, and she had a chestnut filly, Puntzi Mtn. Symphony, that spring.  I then re-bred her to Summits Barbarian, and had a black filly the following year, which we named Fourlees Barbara Ann ("Babe").

Very sadly, Trixie broke her leg when 'Babe' was just 6 months old, and had to be put down.  While looking for another mare, I found a yearling stallion with a pedigree I couldn't pass up - Breezy Cobra, Foxfire, and Captor breeding.  Goldenaire Senator G came to live with us in June of 1981.  Later that year I was offered the chance to buy a 16 year old brood mare, Monashee Golden Dawn ("Monny"), with good old Government/Western Working Family breeding, and she was bred to Senator the following year.

In Spring of 1983 Monny produced a beautiful chestnut filly, and Barbara Ann had a chestnut colt.  We finally decided on the prefix "Four-L" and named the filly Four-L April Dawn and the colt, Four-L Firefox.

In 1984 Monny had a gorgeous black filly which we named Four-L Black Satin, and Babe had a bay filly named Four-L Charisma.  We sold Babe that  summer, so just had one foal the next year - another black filly, Four-L Black Magic.  In 1986 Monny had another black, this time a colt, Four-L King Cobra.

That summer I left my husband, and, due to my financial situation, was forced to sell off all the horses except Senator, whom I had gelded in order to be able to keep him. (Since he was returned to me from a lease the previous year in terrible condition, I had determined he would never leave me again.) Senator enjoyed being an 'only horse' and we traveled many miles together, including doing Competitive Trail one year, but mostly pleasure riding.

As the years passed, re-married and in a better financial position, I started to think of when I would need a younger horse to ride, and knew that it had to be an offspring of Senator's.  I approached the owner of April Dawn about getting a foal, and was delighted when he offered to sell her back to me.  She had always been my favorite, and getting her back was a dream come true.  When we brought her home (boarded at that time) she and Senator recognized each other right away.  It was wonderful.

In 1996 April Dawn was bred to JMF Wild Card, and produced a lovely chestnut colt the next year.  Four-L Stormy Weather was born on a cold, wet and windy April day, and thus the name.  Well, I had naturally wanted fillies to continue my breeding program in the future, so had to try again.  In the meantime, I had the opportunity to re-purchase April's sister, Black Magic, and once more I didn't hesitate!

In July of 1998 April Dawn was bred to Brookewind Nighthawk , a son of Windy Hill Maestro.  On May 20, 1999 she gave us a lovely colt, Four-L Maestro.

In July 1998, we finally made the move to the country, and it is wonderful to have the horses in the back yard, instead of having to drive out to where they were boarded. As we only have two acres, we have to keep our numbers down, and therefore have decided to cut back on breeding.  Stormy, Maestro and Magic have been sold, leaving my gelding, Senator, my mare April Dawn, and my 2001 filly, Lady.

So at present I have 3 horses: (Click link for individual pedigrees and more pictures).

What more could you ask for than a yard full of beautiful Morgans!!  And my husband, Ted, who 'doesn't like horses', feeds them from his garden when I'm not watching and has totally bonded with Lady!
(He didn't want a dog either, but that's another story...!)
