So what's The Birds!! Ring?  A Webring for bird sites; any and all bird sites!

        What's a webring, anyway?
A webring is a group of sites on a similar subject linked together through the ring's tags (shown at the bottom of this page).  The tags allow visitors to follow their way through the ring by picking the "next" site, a "random" site, the "previous" site etc., or by choosing the "list sites" link one can see a list of all the sites in the ring.  Rings are great because they allow visitors to easily find a number of sites on a subject that interests them; they're great for the sites because they add a little more traffic.

        What's the Birds!! Ring?
The Birds!! Ring is a ring for sites dealing with birds; any and all birds!  With little or no restrictions.  Pet bird sites seem to be the most popular; within that range there's informational sites, breeder's sites, sites with a person's individual pet bird(s), pictures of pet birds and more.  But, pet bird sites are not the only ones in the ring.  There's wild bird sites of different types (about wild birds, feeding and attracting wild birds, individual wild birds and more), there's poultry sites with chickens, ducks, and the like, there's falconry sites about training and hunting with hawks and falcons, and more.  Pretty much any site with anything to do with birds of any type are welcome to join!  I always appreciate the "off-beat" bird sites that join, just for the variety!

        How do I join?
Any site that has bird-related material in it, is welcome to join, as long as it's suitable for all ages and contains no offensive material.

        The steps for joining:
Step 1) Join the queue, by filling out The Form.  This will put your site in the queue, which is basically a holding area for sites which the ringmaster has yet to add to the ring.  Before the ringmaster can add your site, you must put up the ring tags, and they must be in working order.

Step 2) Download the ring's logo graphic to your hard drive.  Do NOT link it to this site.  To download the graphic to your hard drive, right-click it on a PC, or click and hold it on a Mac, and choose "Save Image" from the resulting menu.

Step 3) Put the ring tags up on your site.  The HTML fragment can be found in two places; first, after you enter a site in the queue, you will be sent to a page that includes the proper HTML.  Second, also after entering the queue, you will be emailed with a message that includes your site ID and password, as well as the HTML fragment.  Place the tags either on the site you entered in the queue, or on a webrings site that has an easily visible link from the site you entered in the queue.  If the tags are difficult to find, you probably will not be added to the ring.

Step 4) Check the tags on your site, to make sure they are in good working order.  First make sure the graphic shows up with no problems.  Second, make sure the links in the tags ("next", "skip next" etc.) are in good working order, with YOUR site ID in them.  If you downloaded the graphic properly, and then uploaded it onto your server, and if you put in the HTML fragment you copied from the email that was sent to you, than there should be no problems.

Step 5) Have the ringmaster add you to the ring.  Normally I check the queue every other day or so, so there's no real need to email me unless you were late in getting your HTML up or I seem to be taking a while - always feel free to email a reminder!

        After you're in the ring:
There's very little to do once you're in the ring, but if your site ever moves or goes down, you need to visit the Site Edit page and change the information or delete your site from the ring.

        Thanks for joining! :-)
