The adult female Suastus gremius gremius lays her eggs singly on the leaves of the host plant (in this case, Cocos nucifera - Coconut Palm). The butterfly flies rapidly in the usual Skipper fashion and then stops on a leaf. It then moves backwards towards the rib of the leaf and lays a single egg. The egg is reddish in colour when fresh, turning a lightish grey after a day. |
